Duckling Diaries: the Life and Times of a Welshie Trio

I have just a few questions for my ducks.....

Dear welshies,

Why are you so cute? And how did you manage to poop on the brooder wall??

My kids call that "launching". My full grown Swede can force herself to do it at will when she's irritated. She'll get this devilish look in her eye & the kids will yell, "PUT HER DOWN SHE'S ABOUT TO LAUNCH!" Sure enough a 10" projectile splat comes launching out. She always looks very pleased with herself if she actually hits somebody with it.

... I love that funny, devious duck!!!

Finally up to date and subscribed... Beautiful 'lings Banti!

Thank you!

My Runner ducklings were good at getting to the edges of puppy pads and ingesting the innards.  Bye-bye, puppy pads!  Back to old towels.

Then Alba and Salem demonstrated how a determined young duck can tug at a poor-quality terrycloth towel, unravel the strings, and try to ingest those.  Bye-Bye, cheap old terrycloth towel.  Back to the former good-quality, don't unravel old towels.

What stinkers! I have been using sand from the driveway, is that okay?

I also would have some reservations... not to worry you but maybe there's another source of bedding.
What about clean sand? I had been wondering about this. I have a pile of sand that was delivered for various projects around the house, I have been tempted to use it but haven't yet, What's your way-in about it? I think it would make cleanup easier in their pen. Right now I have 2 ducks in the pen 24/7. I have bandaged one for angel wing and have put a friend in with her, it would make the cleanup easier if I had sand rather than hay. But have been concerned about it. They are normally free ranging so get plenty of sand otherwise.

Thanks!

Okay, thank you! I have used this sand once in the past for chicks- I'll switch to sand from a "clean" spot now.

The reason I like sand is if they spill water, I can just sift out the wet spots!
