Duckling Diaries: the Life and Times of a Welshie Trio

So true. I need a bigger coop first, but that can be arranged ... :D
If you figure out how on earth you make them stay small, let me know.

I just asked Deb to tell me if she ever figures it out. The waterer that was almost too big THREE DAYS AGO is now thiiiiisssss close to too small. :barnie

Three days ago?!!! I think they double or triple in size every week, but I never notice a difference in three days. Maybe I'm just not observant. Why do other animals grow slowly, but ducklings have to grow like it's a race to see who can grow up fastest?!

My ducklings seemed to grow out of everything I put them in. It only took a day or so in their new box and they were wall to wall ducks. I finally found a furniture box from a store in town. It was about 4' x 4'. That did it. They stayed in that until they outgrew it. Now they are fully feathered and outside in their pen and free roaming with the adults! Yea!!!

Now we have to deal with the feed problem. The adults don't need as much protein as the babies and the babies don't need calcium like the adults do! Boy!!! I never knew I had so many problems!!! LOL

Boy, I wish I could find a 4x4 box! That might work. My setup, which I thought they'd never outgrow, is getting too small already.

Is this that waterer you showed a picture of earlier in this thread? I mean, I knew they grew fast, but to almost have outgrown that this soon?

How soon do you think they'll outgrow their brooder, too?!

My brooder stays the same size so there isn't much I can do right now to make the smell go away. I can't wait till they can go outside permanently, at least the four older ones. The little guys can stick around a while longer. If they can't grow fast enough, though, maybe I should go live in the coop until they're ready! They are driving me out with that smell!
