It's probably cold.Well the mom squished the egg and ants began getting to it so I removed it and have been caring for it. It shakes its head almost constantly, has a hard time standing and cannot walk.
I just found out my parents feed them only chicken pellets so I’m changing the adult ducks diets and will supplement the chick when it starts eating.
The head shaking is so violent it cannot eat or drink. I will feed with a syringe I guess?
We had a duck who abandoned her nest, following a possum infiltration. We were able to salvage 9 and incubated them until they hatched over the last 72 hours. Misting them can help, but if you disrupt them, she may abandon the nest. My experience says they can take up to 48 hours between first pipping and finally hatching.Leaving it under mom would be the best option. Sometimes they don't hatch until 24 hours after pipping, so I would give it time. I would separate them from the drake. If you check on it later and the membrane looks dry, sometimes you can moisten it or use coconut oil on it, but make sure you have given it enough time to absorb the yolk and blood vessels before removing any shell. There is a great article for assisting hatching here: link.
