To each his own. Lol, I've been hatching a while, and I hate losing any.

But seriously, if its been longer than 24-48 hours, and there's been a lot of stress a few drops of water, sav-a-chick, or sugar water makes a huge difference. I prefer water, just on the end of my finger.

And if you think about it, water on the membrane in your humid incubator dehydrating doesn't quite add up.

I am an extremely hands-on hatcher. But there are still limits. Ducks take more time than chickens, you can't rush them.

Ok, I read somewhere that ducklings can live off of their yolks for three days. I’m hoping that’s the case and will look again in the morning. Should I keep the paper towel on or off?

I’ll take it off. I was thinking it would cover the open area and stop it drying out. Oops.

Paper towel off. Don't feel bad, it seems logical, it's just backwards how it work.
As long as the bill is out and you don't see him in any distress, give him a little time.

Vaseline will help and just the edges if turning Brown?...
