Ducklings about the hatch, help!

Thanks, Everything was fully absorbed. When we got more of the shell off, we could see his head was actually under his foot. He had a wing, a foot, and his bill out. I gently lifted his foot and out he popped. He not moving a whole lot right now, but we are both pretty tired.

Congratulations on a job well done, and long labor requires lots of rest of mama and baby. Nemo looks great and healthy..

You can give him a nice cuddly stuffed animal and a non breakable mirror so he can see himself it helps relieve stress of being alone. Give him a cuddle and smooch from all aunts and uncle's here on BYC!! who have been waiting on edge of our chairs.

So sorry you lost dad.

Thanks so much, great advice on the mirror and snuggly!

Strange question, how frequently should he poop? I know that as they mature they go a lot, but just wondering about this first 24 ish hours. He has pooped 2 times so far

Question: can I let him just sleep in my hand or do I need to leave him in the brooder? Whenever he wakes he peeps and when I put my hand down he nuzzles it then either lays his head on my hand or crawls into my palm. It way more comfy for me to just hold him then sit with my hand in the brood, but is he warm enough? And safe. Also are there any videos of people teaching duckling to drink. I've dipped his bill a couple of times, but it is very awkward and he hasn't approached it himself

Sure! Your body temp us is plenty to keep him warm.

Just be warned, he will expect it like a crying human child! Lol!
But so precious. I had Opie inside from hatch because his mom rejected him and oh my gosh such a special time. I loved it. I would put a towel over my shoulder and he would climb up my arm and lay just like he was under his mamas body it was so sweet. Your right though @WVduckchick I had to keep him close by all the time. I would also take him out side for short adventures so we could be around the other ducks/chickens and geese. He always stayed right with me but it was summer so I didn't have to worry about him getting chilled Then I could bring him inside and put him in his brooder and he'd have a good nap and I could get some things done. He and I are still close he even comes and snuggles with me while I pet him and talk to him. He is 5 yrs old now. Oh we also put thick towels up on the bed and snuggled with him in bed before bedtime oh gosh was that special can you tell we love that drake. lol

@Socc04b you spoil him all you want. after all you are his/her mommy.
