Ducklings at Tractor Supply?

I have also heard that ducklings from TSC are not very healthy/ hearty...but maybe that's just around here (central VA). Death losses at 2-4 weeks seem to be higher than expected...just from what I have heard from neighbors and acquaintances. "I bought 4 but 3 died within the first few weeks". And I can't make it ALL due to mismanagement. I wonder if our local TSC duckling source is just not good.
I've heard they're straight run because the hatcheries want to get rid of drakes. Nothin but a tub fulla drakes!

I got 2 ducklings from TSC in VA this past Spring. They were sold straight run with no breed identification. We gambled but were very pleased with our Pekin and Runner who are both very healthy. I wouldn't get them there again b/c I don't want anymore drakes - and if you want certain breeds that are sexed, I'd go with ordering sexed ducklings or getting older ducks that you can sex by voice (which is what we ended up doing - got them from Craigslist).

Do you have to give over your driver's license for tracking like when you buy sudafed?? Maybe in your state's listings you can find someone to split an order with you. Or look on craigslist for listings come spring. I often sell my ducklings in 2s and 3s because that's what I have -- I only have 2 hens so I don't set large clutches.
Last year, when I bought some chicks at TSC in Dothan, Ala, before they would let me pay for them I had to show ID to verify address because of a new law in Ala. I started to tell them where they could shove their birds, but the old lady wanted them and kept my on my leash. They also had a minimum of 4 ducklings. I went back a month later for more and they just asked for address but I didn't have to show ID that time.
I think it's time to vote some of these meddling bastards out of office!
