Ducks with special Needs

Pics
Hi Cyndi! DJ is doing well! She is quite stable in her condition, which is good!
Beverly on the other hand isn't that great. She for sure will need to have her foot amputated. Right now she gets around using her elbow. I'm planning on finding someone willing to 3D print her a prosthetic or if I need to, I might buy a 3D printer myself...

that sounds expensive; how does this work? i hope it works for her.

You can get a 3D printer for less than $1k now. I'm just not sure if those will print what I need. Gotta do some more research...if you google "duck prosthetic" you'll find a bunch of news articles of other people printing them :)

hello everyone... my pekin Ali walked about 25' down a steep grade of dirt and then up on a pallet (in front o the door) and over the door threshold and into the duck house w/all the other ducks. if she walked all the way around the duck house (like the ducks normally do) then she walked about 60'. i didnt see which way she walked. That is pretty darn good for her, she is probably tired. it was dark out and she didnt want to stay in the pond and wait for me to pick her up, so she did it herself... such a big girl.

how are your ducks doing ladies (are there any gents in this thread?) and gents? havent heard from you in a few weeks.
are you busy Christmas/gift shopping? not me, i dont have kids and our (my dh and I) families are states away.
well, Happy Holidays to all. take care

Why not give your drake some time out and give Dandelion some much need rest from him.

That's an inspiring story...and another reminder that animals just do the best they can with what they have. She sounds like a smart girl.

Elliott's doing well, thanks for asking. He bathes himself daily and keeps himself looking sharp. The girls jump out of the pool when he gets in. lol He's no angel - I've realized that he sometimes pretends that he can't see the ramp to the coop well enough to go up...but when he knows I'm serious (as in "get in there on your own or the net's coming") he miraculously can figure out how to walk right up it! He keeps me on my toes.

Re the holidays: no shopping for me, either. I like to donate to charity in lieu of gift-giving, (much to others' chagrin). I think the holidays have become too materially-focused, anyway.

Thank you for the holiday wishes - best to your family and animals, too!
