Ducks with special Needs

Pics
hello everyone... my pekin Ali walked about 25' down a steep grade of dirt and then up on a pallet (in front o the door) and over the door threshold and into the duck house w/all the other ducks. if she walked all the way around the duck house (like the ducks normally do) then she walked about 60'. i didnt see which way she walked. That is pretty darn good for her, she is probably tired. it was dark out and she didnt want to stay in the pond and wait for me to pick her up, so she did it herself... such a big girl.

how are your ducks doing ladies (are there any gents in this thread?) and gents? havent heard from you in a few weeks.

are you busy Christmas/gift shopping? not me, i dont have kids and our (my dh and I) families are states away.

well, Happy Holidays to all. take care

We are doing good dandelion well she is just.........dandelion i love her so much and Thank God for giving her to us........she has been seizure free but my drake just wont leave her alone like the typical man loves the case of the game cause she could give 2 f***s about him but other then that all is well..... 2 ELF's on a shelf brought a Christmas tree and i am grateful because i saved 30$ lol sooooo all is good around here

I'm happy for Dandelion... seizure free. is her neck bald from Mr. Drake. I have all my ducks together, I dont care if they breed cuz they are not laying eggs, well one runner or buff is. i get one egg every other day out of 18 ducks. the runners usually never stop unless they are broody. oh well, i have plenty of eggs saved up, no worries.
So, glad your Elf's brought you a tree. post a pic, if you dont mind. we have ot had a tree in 2-3yrs, since we moved, no excuses, just lazy i guess?
so if i see yours, maybe i will get in the spirit?
Happy Holidays, and God bless all.

Ali is in the right corner, under the covered leanto. the ducks are all sitting on their frozen pond.

Ali is in under the leanto, she is on the right side, facing in.

the duck house is on the left, the red house. we got about 6" of snow over the past 3-4 days. we are supposed to be -1 degrees Tue. that is ok as long as the wind does not decide to blow, that is what makes it darn cold, cuts to the bones.

well, blessings, ttyl

That's an inspiring story...and another reminder that animals just do the best they can with what they have. She sounds like a smart girl.

Elliott's doing well, thanks for asking. He bathes himself daily and keeps himself looking sharp. The girls jump out of the pool when he gets in. lol He's no angel - I've realized that he sometimes pretends that he can't see the ramp to the coop well enough to go up...but when he knows I'm serious (as in "get in there on your own or the net's coming") he miraculously can figure out how to walk right up it! He keeps me on my toes.

Re the holidays: no shopping for me, either. I like to donate to charity in lieu of gift-giving, (much to others' chagrin). I think the holidays have become too materially-focused, anyway.

Thank you for the holiday wishes - best to your family and animals, too!

thank you, yes Ali is smart. when she wants to get somewhere she does it, she does get tired. I saw one of my blue runner ducks and my blue sweede drake picking on Ali the other day, they stopped when i walked up to them. the blue duck and the drake are both the dominant ones, so maybe this is why? she gets away from them easier when the pond is not frozen and they are all swimming.
so glad Elliott is doing well. any new pics of him?

up date on chester here he is controlling the food dish and when it is pea time he jumps in the pool and I throw the peas in the water and he dives for them he does what ducks do best. this way he dose not have to compete with the other ducks. he is so smart I think he is walking better and he feels a lot safer there is always a duck around when the others go for a walk. Charlie always keeps a careful eye out for him. even he looks better since he has been with me.
WOW, Chester is handsome... looking good. did you move him? your goose is handsome.

So it looks like we will be moving Dandelion in the house with us.........Our drake and the other ducks are picking on her and she has started to have bad seizures............So ducky diapers here we come

Oh, no, im sorry the other ducks are picking on her and so sad that she is having seizures...
I made a pattern for a diaper for Ali, cuz i thought she was going to have to be a house duck. but she has a nice pen area of her own inside the duck house.
If you want the pattern, ill send it to you?

I have a mallard that hatched last year with irregular bone structure in her left leg. From her 'knee' to her webs her leg is flat like a foot. I'll post a picture later. But she is doing good I have to build her a special coop soon because she doesn't get along with the other mallards very well.

Welcome to this thread... how is your duck coming along? what are you doing for her/him? is there anything you can do for him?

Hi, @CyndiD! I think you're right about the dominant birds being more aggressive about the bullying...Elliott used to get picked on a lot more than he does now, and it was often the highest-ranking ducks and drakes that were responsible. It never fails to amaze me that the ducks and chickens can be so mean (at least from the human perspective) to each other, especially to the disadvantaged flock members.

Your snow pictures are beautiful! Everyone looks cozy.
