Ducky DO'S & DON'TS

Pics
After "sleeping" on the idea of taking on someone Else's mature livestock, we decided today it might be best to obtain our creatures at a younger age. Raising them from hatch lings so they would be raised by us and not dumped on us. We have no history of the geese, medical/temperament etc.
On top of the fact we would be putting the cart in front of the horse by obtaining the geese or ducks before the habitat is even in place.
So no Pilgrim Geese coming...
Also since the balance of the Turkeys were supposed to be eliminated to make way for the addition of the Ducks in the first place, replacing the Turkeys with Geese doesn't follow under the good common sense category..
Trying not to deviate from the existing plan..

I was hoping to fill my thread with my pix this Spring! I liquidated a ton of livestock like my Hubby said in order to get my WET stock..lol.
Your photo thread is driving bonkers!:hugs:eek::lau

Making me get off my lazy behind and starting on my habitat.. I have plenty of space now..

Thanks for the boost of ambition I needed!:highfive:

Are you building a new duck house or do you have something already set up on the farm?
Starting from scratch.. fencing/house/pool-pond/rocks/plants.
The space use to occupy our Turkeys. We removed the fencing to move the earth with a tractor. But then used the fencing to expand runs on chicken breeding houses. Adding Blue Aussies this past year.

Started to create a pond. Have rocks and a PVC pond sheeting but found a water pipe to an old line headed who knows where. Not to our house and not to anything above ground. We removed it and capped it off.
The housing will be a heavy duty dog house for a little while until chick season provides us with a little more capital for material for a new house for them.
Still not set on WHAT BREEDS will be purchased. Just don't need any FLIGHTY ones.
Containment will be priority one. I have enough chicken poo already..
Rural King hasn't sold any ducklings since fall. I check every time we go in. Most likely will be purchased there. Our the little farm store across the County has a nice selection Spring time as well.
This is uncharted territory for me. I am excited.

One of my girls has taken to flying over the electric net fence at me when she sees me coming (as long as my dog didn't come out with me)...she is such a brat!!! Was told she is a Welsh Harlequin when I bought her. She can't do much more than that though...she barely makes it over and brushed her webs on the fence every time .
