Ducky DO'S & DON'TS

Are your chickens/roosters going to be housed with your ducks or separate? I don't own chickens but have heard how drakes will try and mate with chickens and roosters might try to mate with ducks. Drakes will hurt your chicken hens when mating. Also there could be fighting, i have read stories on here where they have fought and some where they haven't.

Shouldn't try it if there's enough hens... I have 3 drakes (one is a Call) and I think 6 girls. No issues so far. With enough space they'll just do their own ducky thing.

I clean the kiddie pool every day or every other day depending on how dirty they get the water.
Is it poo in the pool or mostly dirt? Would gravel bedding around the pool help with dirt muddying up the water?
I am planning a sunken pond kinda. That means I would have to pump the water out everyday? Or would a filtration system be needed. I have a heavy duty pump already and was planning a kinda scenic waterfall (small) if I can gather enough rocks. I am sure the filter would need to be rinsed daily. But how often draining? Still once a day or so?.

Both, for me. Gravel might help, but then you'd miss out on seeing duckies noodling in the mud. :love

Completely separate. But the mob of roos kinda go where they want to go. It is my old Turkey pen. Already fenced but soon to be wider. Partial shade & partial sun year round. Perfectly in view of our back sundeck area so we can enjoy the view. Of the birds and decorative habitat.. Just like BFF Banty quoted lol.. eye candy.
Tired of the same scenery day in and day out. Time to stop and enjoy life.
