Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat - Part 2 : Chicken Boogaloo.

You know, maybe she's on to something. Making meat just might create more jobs and save the planet. You know, just making it in store and not having to truck it in. :rollseyes

Topic moved on but my dog, who is 10 this year, only saw his first chicken last spring when I presented a chick for him to sniff. I didn't even let him get excited, any reaction other than casual sniffing got him scolded and he's been fine since day one. He's taken to following the flock around the yard and we joke that he's decided to be a chicken now.

One weird thing he does do, is he helps me herd them if they get out of the yard or I need to put them back into the run for whatever reason. He's not even a herding breed, he's a a shelter mutt special lab/husky mix! Just goes to show old dogs can definitely learn new tricks.

My cats like to sneak up on the girls and surprise them. One then looks at me like he's laughing about having such fun. I watched as one of the girls spun around and pecked him on top of his punkin' head! He jumped up in the air, did a 180, landed facing the opposite way, and took off like a shot. The chicken got the last laugh.

I used to have bees and had one cat that thought it was fun to stick its paw into the hive until he got nailed on the tip of his nose I never seen a cat run and jump like that before! But after that he made a detour around the hives

Don't have any pics but I cut an opening in the bottom for the chicken in some and that gave me a lid to open and pull eggs from the outside and have cut the lid off of a few for inside the coop and they work great too I use a piece of wood and a small piece of ply to slide into the slot and screw it down that locks them together and stabilizes them. My girls love it and they are so easy to clean

Hmmm.

Thanks for the nest box idea. I use mine (only 3 rescue cats at the moment and a 1 acre yard that I prefer they use) for storing feed, wild bird seed, alfalfa pellet horse feed (super good, cheap, and organic fertilizer high in nitrogen), other fertilizers, compost tea, oyster shell, and other goodies. They stack up nicely in the garage or hen house, too. I also use Arm & Hammer laundry detergent which comes in similar buckets.
