LOL... I don't waste my time anymore on them. They also think they're experts on EVERYTHING and continually refute anything said by others. Grrrrr!!

Besides, I enjoy giving eggs to those who appreciate them, not those who demand them, or expect them.

Just returned from 2 weeks in Paris, with a stop over in Iceland. It was remarkable to see grocery store after grocery store selling eggs off a shelf, unrefrigerated, lol (not to mention the outdoor farmers markets!) When I told relatives and friends about how paranoid most people here are about egg hygiene, storage, etc. they were stunned. The free range organic eggs we bought over there were so much like our own - dark orange yolks and tasted great. The quality of their food is far superior to ours, truly. Everywhere you go you see fresh produce stands - not just shops and farmers markets, but even down in the subways too! And I was free to eat and drink everything - no corn syrup to be found (I'm allergic to corn)! I could have Orangina and Coke and ketchup again - oh happy day!

Anyway, I digress.

I have a fun new one to add!

A few weeks ago I was getting my nails done and my sweet and wonderful nail lady hinted that she'd love some of our eggs. So I promised her I'd bring her some next time and we started discussing keeping chickens, etc. She asked what we do with so many eggs (we get over a dozen a day now) and I explained that DH eats lots of egg whites. She exclaimed, "so you throw all those yolks away?!" I replied, "no, we save them and whatever yolks I can't use in recipes we just scramble and feed them back to the chickens (do that with the shells too)." Tears sprang into her eyes and she squeaked out, "So the chickens are eating their own BABIES?????"

I think I must have sat there for at least 10 seconds just blinking at her.

and EricaD In my area in Indiana (and probably your area or the next district over for coke delivery area) carries "mexican coke" it's in glass bottles and are shipped 24 to the case and usually sold loose (altho Sam's club locally has the 24 pack and it looks like a plain brown shipping box not a "custom" box just for them) and it has sugar in it, not sure if it's sugar beet or cane or a blend of both so there may be hope for you yet for an occasional coke from what I remember it's 1 or 2 bucks and the size of the bottle for our market here it's kinda pricey )something like 8-10OZ. and a 24 OZ plastic is 150 in most machines. (sometimes you get lucky and find one that's still a buck 25 or you have to pay like 2 bucks in a bowling ally or such stuck paying what they can charge for it)

"Eww! No, you can get salmonella and diseases from them!"

Ah maybe that's where this keep eggs in the fridge section at the supermarket now thing came from. Copying you guys. Here in Aus its only been I don't know 5 or so years they've been doing that where I live. Mind you its abviously just for show as they are redecorating our woolies and the eggs are being happily sold out of the fridge section again while they do it.

Ask her why she thinks you can get salmonella from home produced eggs and not from store bought eggs. Ask her what the difference is and how she knows this.
Ask her if she has she ever been to an egg farm and if she knows anyone who has. Her answers might be interesting.

I tried to explain to her why that was ridiculous but she would have none of it. (She's not known for being the brightest in my family.)

I went into my local bank the other day, and was talking to the two ladies who work there about the fact that now that I'm allergic to eggs, I'll be selling any excess eggs that my DH and kids don't eat. Well, they were both interested in buying eggs from me, and one of them said: "What kind are they?" So I said "We have large brown eggs, small cream eggs (bantams) and jumbo duck eggs." She said "Oh, I just want regular eggs." I just looked at her for a minute thinking "What, exactly, are regular eggs???" I knew she meant the large sized eggs, not the duck or bantam eggs, but the way she said it, like duck eggs or bantam eggs are gross, made me pause for a minute.

DH said I should just give them a few eggs for free (some bantam, large and duck) and let them decide after eating them which ones they want. Not sure how that might go over. Maybe if I gave them a dozen eggs, and threw in one or two duck and bantam eggs for them to try, that might work better.

LOL... that might work or they may freak and just toss them.

People, usually city people, who have no concept where their food comes from and would probably all die if the grocery store closed up, are a strange lot!!! If they took a tour through an egg supply warehouse or slaughterhouse, their eyes would be truly opened!!! They have their ideals what is normal with what main stream has taught them. If it's out of their norm, it's unnatural....lol. I grew up city and learned to be country thirty years ago, which I adore!!! My parents (city through and through!!) routinely amazed me with what they thought was 'normal' with our food sources!!

Let the lady who wants 'regular' eggs continue buying the hormonal stuff found in today's markets and the other, if she's open for 'experimentation', allow her the honor of indulging. You may have to really push the indulging and delicacy point, as most people are sheep and follow the herd.
