E-Bay Eggs On The Way!

I had a mini class last night on lockdown - it goes like this Originally Posted by WalnutHill

When you candle an egg that is ready for lockdown from the air cell end, you will see:

A large dark mass filling 2/3 of the egg
A distinct membrane line between the embryo and the air cell
The membrane will be tilted to one side in most cases
There will be no or virtually no amber (liquid) between the dark mass and the membrane
At this point you are 2-3 days from hatch

If you are a little late, you may also:
See a beak poked up into the air cell
Hear cheeping
At this point you are 1-2 days from hatch (It's true!)

Wish I had a second incubator - I would love to separate my blue eggs by the farm they came from.
Never thought about that before.
Didn't hear any peeping until day 18 when i was moving them out of the turner, and they started hatching the next morning of the 19th. Just looked again and several eggs have pipped holes, and not just the Bresse, the EE's and Olive Eggers and the Heinze brown eggs too. My 3 Copper Marans eggs; don't see a pipped one yet, but did see one of the Copper Marans eggs jump a little i think. Want my Marans!

Here we go, plus 20 local eggs, 12 August due date.
2 weeks plus 5 days ago equals today, day 19, so i didn't get my due date wrong. My incubator temp has been 99.5-100 degrees all along, and have used 3 different thermometers to calibrate correct temp, think i'll find a digital thermometer and get a 4th opinion, because temp must have been high to get a day 19 hatch.

Just went and checked a couple minutes ago, 2 of the Bresse eggs have hatched already on day 19! Plugged in my other incubator to stick these guys in till they dry out, wasn't expecting this so early. How exciting! :D

First, congrats on the hatch!! That is awesome!! Second, that's what I was going to say before I read your last post. Your temps might have been a little high. How are you calibrating your thermometer? With heat or cold?

Congrats on the chicks. My fingers are crossed for your Marans.

How are you going to distinguish them after they hatch - I'm wondering about the EEs and OEs?

First mutt just hatched, big black chick with a white spot on the back of his head, he's a little monster! Way bigger than the Bresse so far. So far 5 Bress and one mutt have hatched. Pretty good, 5 of the 8 shipped Bresse eggs have hatched so far. So impressed with the hatch I'm bidding on more Bresse eggs on ebay, can't believe my fingers hit the bid button,
told them not to, but they did anyway.

7 White Bresse and 5 dark chicks hatched yesterday, got up this morning and 5 more hatched overnight, all 5 dried out sticky, so washed them all off with warm water so they will dry fluffy, one of the Copper Marans hatched overnight but not sure which one he is.

Worried about sticky chicks still in the shell won't be able to get out so started helping 4 of them out of the shell that already pipped, one of them was 100% ready to get out, the other 3 still had blood vessels, i probably did more harm than good, so am sitting here taking a coffee break wondering what i'm gonna do with all these baby chicks! Fortunate this hatch started on my days off from work. Just took the photos, the ones in the brooder, the o es in the dryer and the ones still in the incubator, and a pleasant surprise, another one hatching on his own. 22 hatched so far, wish i knew which one is the Copper Marans.
