Didn't hear any peeping until day 18 when i was moving them out of the turner, and they started hatching the next morning of the 19th. Just looked again and several eggs have pipped holes, and not just the Bresse, the EE's and Olive Eggers and the Heinze brown eggs too. My 3 Copper Marans eggs; don't see a pipped one yet, but did see one of the Copper Marans eggs jump a little i think. Want my Marans!I had a mini class last night on lockdown - it goes like this Originally Posted by WalnutHill
When you candle an egg that is ready for lockdown from the air cell end, you will see:
A large dark mass filling 2/3 of the egg
A distinct membrane line between the embryo and the air cell
The membrane will be tilted to one side in most cases
There will be no or virtually no amber (liquid) between the dark mass and the membrane
At this point you are 2-3 days from hatch
If you are a little late, you may also:
See a beak poked up into the air cell
Hear cheeping
At this point you are 1-2 days from hatch (It's true!)
Wish I had a second incubator - I would love to separate my blue eggs by the farm they came from.
Never thought about that before.
