E-Bay Eggs On The Way!

I candled tonight - Day 7 was good
I set a total of 31 eggs
12 B/B/S Ameraucanas 2 had blood rings - tossed
All 8 blue EEs are developing
Of the 10 brown mix OE's and Marans - 1 brown egg had seepage and a crack - tossed it
The rest of the brown eggs I couldn't see through
So I now have 27 in an incubator that holds 24, I just left out the dividers to make them fit.

Well we all had some good news. Now its the waiting game again. I will probably wait until the 14th to candle again.

My new coop is almost finished. I debating what paint to use on the floor. Any suggestions?

What kind of floor do you have?

Candled this a.m., day 10 . I hate these dark chocolate Marans eggs, they are so hard to candle, saw one that was definitely fertile and was able to tell i had 5 eggs not fertile, broke them open and was 100% right, 2 more still unsure about, and unsure about all the olive eggs, can't see do do in them either. Redhillranchpoultry sent me 5 of 8 unfertile Marans eggs, unfortunately i already gave them a good review on ebay, because i candled on day 6 and was hopeful and optimistic. I will no longer leave ebay comment on shipped eggs until after the 10 day candling.

On the bright and sunny side, i candled the La Bresse eggs last and all 8 of them are fertile and thriving! :D :D :D. Also, of course 21 of 24 of the local mutt/mixed breed chicken eggs i bought locally for $3 a dozen are all doing good, i'm happy about that too but so sad :( about my Copper Marans being infertile. Thankful for my La Bresse thought, :D forgive me Lord for complaining about the Marans, I'm thankful for the fertile ones that remain.

I remember Bishop Jakes preaching on that one time, "be thankful for what you still got and quit complaining about what you lost". I always try to remember that.

I've never done dark eggs but I heard that if you take two flashlights and hold one on each end of the egg, you can do better candling. Good luck.

Yes I did.

I thought so! Just making sure!

Joyryder, glad you still have 27 good ones.

And RubyNala, i'm lucky to hold one flashlight and one egg to get an egg candled, how would i go about holding 2 flashlights?

That's a good question! Maybe lay the egg on a towel and hold one up to each end? If I can remember the person who suggested it, I will ask.

How often do you candle? I use to worry about cooling off the eggs too much. But recently I learned the chicks could get a cool down period each day. Simulates the hen getting off the nest to eat, drink and poop.

Agreed. I usually candle every other night, quickly. (I know, I'm bad) Mark air cells on 7,14 & 21.
