eagle eye/ i think she is slowly dieing!!! :-(

okay thank you i will get the powder for the mites tomorrow and do you guys know if hens stop laying when they get sick? she laid eggs before she was sick but now she has gone a whole week without laying! maybe its stuck in her?

believe me, there are mites in Enumclaw ! I got mites at the fairgrounds there ..... luckily they were on ME ...

scabies mites itch like the very dickens ... thank goodness for Kwell .. but that's for humans, not chickens

I'm glad you're getting the powder, her situation grows more dire every minute those bugs stay on her. Act fast. You'll have to treat your other chickens and their coop as well. Give her things by dropper to keep her strength up (babyfood works well) until she starts eating on her own again. Her crop is working right?

You can feel around for a stuck egg but it's normal for them to stop laying when they're sick. She has lost a lot of blood to the mites (anemic) and her body hasn't got enough strength to walk, much less create an egg. She'll start laying again once she's stronger and healthier. Good luck, I really hope you can save her.

Yes, you have to treat fast, she must have had these mites for some time. They can easily kill a grown chicken - they get so weak and anemic from the bites. After you treat her and she feels a bit better try to get her to eat some mashed egg yolk to get protein inside her. I think a little sugar in water would give her an energy boost. I hope it isn't too late for her. With all due respect to your father, mites, lice. etc. are in all states and countries, I am sure.

My little rooster was injured and would not drink today. I could NOT get him to touch his water. I had my DD dip his beak in a tablespoon filled with red gatoraid and I didn't think he would ever stop drinking. He perked up very quickly and even ate a whole scrambled egg. I felt bad about caging him for the night because he went from just laying down to running like a crazy bird. Maybe you could try some for your girl.

hope she gets better, she is lucky to have you to care for her.
I am new to chickens, so no expert but I think worming a very sick hen could be bad for her, but you do need to get rid of the bugs/mites, they could be making her weak too. i wish you luck

thanks guys i just got home and my parents are picking up the medicine right now. My step dad doesn't want to pick it up. he is sooooooooooooooooo cheap. he doesn't even want to spend money on a sick hen in a life/death situation! he wants to put her out of her misery! but i said "NO" we will not stop until this hen is back to normal! i love her so much! if she dies i might even do CPR on her! NO JOKE!!!!

hope she makes it..
