I have been trying to hatch some local eggs from a friends trio of ducks now for two batches as I like to call them. These eggs candle fertile and all but one has been fertile when I cracked it open so far but they are not making it past the first few days.

The ducks themselves are well taken care off and in good health, and fed good quality food, plus they get bugs, watermelon and the like when they are outside.

My incubator is been steady this time around with an average temp of 99.4 to 99.6 on any given day. My humidity is at 54% in the bator right now. My other eggs are looking amazing but these ones while darker than when I first put them in I am not seeing any veins or darker lines through the shell.

The eggs are Cayuga that are not showing any signs of developing like the others if that makes any difference.

I would love some advice for what we might be doing wrong

I have a set that has been in the incubator a for 14 days I can not see veins but have seen shadows in one egg.

They had one set make it to lock down themselves but they died during lock down. They know the ducks are mating and when I crack them they have the fertile dot or. Day or two of growth but nothing farther.

I have the person with the ducks giving extra vitamins to them. She would have started today. But what else could it be. My welsh Harlequin eggs are showing veins and growth and they were set the same day.

What can I do or we do to help these eggs start hatching?

I’m thinking similar to you. The two things that come to mind, is bad genetics or improper nutrients within the egg. If you try the eggs after a couple weeks of vitamins and they still won’t grow, I would guess bad genetics. Are they the first eggs these ducks have laid?

How long have they been laying? Some BYCers suggest waiting 2 months before you incubate new layers eggs. And I would agree. The shells are small and the quality isn’t up to par.
