Anybody have any near misses with the bird flu going around? Two barns in the county have now tested positive. A turkey barn and a chicken barn.

I don't think they have a good grasp on how this is spreading. It surely can not be natural in my opinion. With as many geese as there are around here the whole area would be void of birds!

I believe it has a lot to do with the animals that are raised in barns being selectively bred for certain traits other than disease resistance. Meaning, most wild animals have resistance that barn raised animals do not.

I think that has a lot to do with it. And I just don't think people in charge of such huge numbers of birds can care for them the same way that those of us who know each individual bird in our flock can.
I did lose a bird unexpectedly this week, and for a few minutes I WAS terrified of AI but on closer examination, she died of a severe vent prolapse that I don't think anything could have helped. It was a sad day for sure, but thankfully not avian influenza sad.

Well I've been wanting to get another girl for awhile but we are definitely waiting. So far my girls seem in great health. I've thought about selling the eggs but so far we just give them away. I have been periodically putting garlic and vinegar in their water to boost their immune systems. Does anyone have any ideas on keeping smell down in town for their outside run?

Hello,

I am from the north east corner of the state. Was wondering if anybody would be interested in some French Black Copper Maran roosters. I have 4 extra. I also have 3 FBCMxAmeraucana roosters. These were all hatched in April.
