Look who arrived yesterday! She is so adorable, and has stolen everybody's heart. This little chickie is definitely a favorite in our home. Does this look like a non-bearded hatchery quality chick to y'all?








Also, does this 2nd chick look like a possible EE to anyone? I was supposed to get a Welsummer in my order, and this is the only as of yet unidentified chick, and folks are telling me she's definitely not a Wellie:

She's definitely not a Wellie, that's true. My EE doesn't have cheeks (sadness!), so cheeks are not a for-sure indicator.

Does anyone have an EE with a dark, blackish pea comb? My girl's is growing in almost black, like my Partridge Rock. It's not pox or scabs.

I did have a young pullet that
had a blackish colored comb. I assume she was part Australorp since that's the black hen that I have. She just died last week for unknown causes before she was old enough to lay (close but not yet still a month away) so I don't know if the comb would have turned red like her mother's or if it would have gotten a mulberry color like a silkie.


She was pretty, and I wanted to see what her comb did, and what color egg she laid, (and I really need eggs)

Thanks estamets. It's been a frustrating month. Fox or something took out my new rooster along with my 2 youngest hens and 2 other hens one evening. That drastically reduced the number of eggs I got the next day (and since then as well). I tried incubating all the eggs from that moment and got 12 viable ones until my cat knocked over the incubator leaving me with 4 possible eggs. Of those 4, one hatched tonight. The other three when I candled, I could tell were no longer good (one even had fuzzy mold inside when I eggtopsied). My first hatch of the year, I sold the chicks and I heard they have started laying (wish I had kept some). I had some incubation troubles the next couple of attempts so I didn't have many chicks (I am processing the cockerels this weekend) and I am anxiously awaiting their first eggs. This black pullet mentioned earlier was a few weeks away from being laying age and when I could start finding eggs from her or her "sister".

I got her from Meyer. Their site has a note on their EEs that some wil be bearded but not all. I sure wish she was cheeky, the blue Ameraucana that came with her is too cute for words. So do u think either chick is a non- bearded EE?

I am so sorry to read this! Maybe someone on craigslist near you has a laying hen or 2 that are needing rehoming.

I'll say that I am very interested to see how your Ameraucana turns out, really like what Meyer has done there! Though I wish they would explain BBS since they are breeding blues.
