Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

Looks exactly like one of mine at 8 days. These two were identical except in pic #1 the left chick had a little darker coloring. Now they are turning different colors but in the same scheme of things if that makes sense. #3 chick in the middle was similar but charcoalish blue above and yellowish blue below. It was always the biggest and now the others all have tail feather, that one only has an IDEA of tail feathers, so all along looks like a roo. I was hoping I would end up with some blue wheatons.

My two surprise EE I got out of the straight run bin at my feed store. I think the hatchery put them in there because they didn't meet their ameracuana standards. I asked for the two yellow chicks thinking they were new Hampshire chicks.

I was trying to post you're pictures to my post but did something wrong.

Here are my 2 EE "pullets". 5 weeks old. What does everyone think. They both have different combs. Potato's is flat and wide, and Falcon just has 1 ridge and it's skinny.

Both of mine looked identical to your right chick, bottom picture except mine had long tail feathers at 1 week old

They both look like pullets so far, although can't really see Potato's comb well. Unless they have some red leakage, the feathers won't tell us anything until saddles start coming in (12 wks or so.) They're cute. Nice color.

What's the deal with red leakage? Is this a sure roo sign?

Leakage can occur in both males and females. It simply means an unwanted or undesirable color. If a blue bird has gold/red leakage, the males will get more of it on the wing. Just a rooster thing.

We have an EE with red flecks on its wings. General consensus is that it's prolly a roo, even though its wings are becoming less defined in terms of pattern. Either it'll crow or lay an egg. Blargh
