After reading your info I think I was sent a cockatoo instead of a hen. Invoice reads female but I have been watching this one for quite a while. My Chicks are now about 10 weeks old and Buffy has been quite aggressive since day one. Seems to be maturing way faster than the rest. She is quite large and has been sporting that red thing on her heard for weeks now plus she/he is making a nice which is starting to sound like a "cock a doodle do" to me. Looking over your info its tail seems fuller and curves down like an upside down C. Well do you think I have a cockatoo

If it's crowing, it's male. Hatchery sexing is 90% accurate. There is still a chance that you will end up with a boy or two. That's just how it is.

Are these even EE's? And are they pullets? These came from eggs that we hatched earlier this year that were purchased as EE eggs. I could only get one picture of the darker bird...

Dang! Why didn't Meyer send me 2 Cockatoos instead of 2 Black Jersey Giants when I ordered Black Australorps?? Cockatoos are quite expensive and long lived, though not the best layers by all accounts.

Here are my now 10 week old girls. They were out foraging so good pictures are hard to come by.

Penelope - she is the only one that has me a tad nervous about gender. Her comb is somewhat red but nearly flat as can be with a small central ridge. But those feathers by her tail are looking kind of saddle puffy. A few weeks ago she was more barred all the way up to her neck. Those have slowly been replaced going down her back with the penciling seen now. No red wing patches, at least not yet.

Thanks for all of your input. I'm feeling more reassured now about Vera. Just heard so many time that three rows means male, that I had to second guess her.
Will share the photos of her first egg in the next month or so.

Phew! I was still leaning heavily toward pullet for Penelope but you know how it is with that 90% thing. And to have both Ideal 3 years ago and Meyer this year be 100% - real bonus, I'm probably running down my "pot of luck".
