A friend of mine asked me to help a different friend find a Barred Rock or Dominique rooster to go with his 13 BR pullets. He's trying to find one in the Bristol, Kingsport, Johnson City, TN area or Abingdon, VA.

The gentleman can't travel very far...so that's why I'm posting in this thread. Hope somebody here can help find a rooster for this man.

Kingsport Tractor Supply has another animal swap March 10th. I got a Barred Rock hen from there last time and this coming one should be a lot bigger then the one in December, it was freezing cold during the last one. If your friend can wait that long I'm pretty sure someone will have one there or at least know where to get one.

Snozzle, thank you for the info! I need to get rid of a few cockerels. Not sure if I can be there because we're waiting on some renovations to be done so we can move into the farmhouse--supposed to be mid March--and get this house put on the market. Wonder if the realtor's description can say 4 nice cockerels are included.

I would not mind having a couple Welsummers (in response to you wanting a couple chocolate egg layers) if you run into anything (cheap) close by let me know too. Ill see if im up near Kingsport at the time of the swap also

Stang..I just found this also. I will be up towards JC this coming week. You want me to stop and check out the stock? The Marans are pricey, but the Wels aren't too bad if they are decent.

bairo - I have incubated several times, and not once have I been able to see through the egg shells to see anything!

I usually do the wait and see method... so we shall wait and see...

Frederick is doing good, I have him with 3 ladies and he's much happier (he was soo lonely standing next to the fence seperating him and the other group)! Unfortunately, the coop is gonna need some remodeling very soon, stupid things keep roosting on the roof! I keep going out there and putting them in but, it's useless and tired of chasing a certain leghorn in! I'm gonna have to make the roof slant... besides it's made of some cheap stuff...

How's the search for egg layers? Sounds like TSC will be having chick days by March, according to Chiggerbait?

I have been thinking about once I get the bator up and running, ordering some old heritage line RIR's.... my husband loves them for some odd reason, and I sold all the RIR's we had and he was upset! I didn't even think he liked them... I just never could find any that looked right, I've seen on the auction listing some eggs... soo tempting!
