I am in need of some advice, we have a dog situation thats been going on well over 2 months but has recently gotten out of control. The people about 3 houses down have 2 dogs and now a puppy that run wild, last night they destroyed a broody hen's nest and tried to carry off a bunch of stuff. The heeler one will see one of us in the yard and run up the road growling and barking into my aunt's yard who lives beside us, they are chasing are cats and everything. Talked to animal control 5 times and obviously has done no good. I hate the idea of killing them but im out of ideas. We cant even walk our dogs now.

Make a dog trap!!!! Take to pound and say you got bit or fear for your safety. Most of the time if you tell AC that they're large MEAN dogs they'll come out, not little dogs though, because they're not a threat. Maybe threaten AC that it's their job.

You might also threaten that if you do not get some resolve to these mean, wild, and threatening dogs, you will be contacting your local news channel to see if they will be interested in a story about how they are not doing their jobs. Someone in Chattanooga did this and they were out within an hour and took the dogs.

So, the dog thing isn't working out, she has separation anxiety problems and bairo was right, don't get someone else's problem. The guy told me when I bought the dog that he'd buy her back if I didn't like her for any reason, well he didn't even want to take her back. Found another home for her, she was beaten by her previous owner and is a womans dog, hubby told me I'd have to pay for things out of my chicken money. It's for the best, she's sweet... just can't seem to be able to get over us leaving for a second, we can be sleeping in the bed in the next room and she's still got the anxiety.

It was a red tail hawk. It looked to be a good foot tall on the ground. A very hansom bird if it wasn't eating my chickens. As for keeping my chicks locked down. That didn't work my 4 year old opened the window and climbed out the house and opened one pen. She defeated the window locks. Guess it is time to put in an alarm system to keep her in, and pad locks on the pens. I was able to catch some of the pullets and throw them in the other pen. I'll just have to wait till dark and split the boys and girls up again. Off to Ace hardware for me to get padlocks. Too bad I don't have a training collar for her. School is out in 2 weeks so my 5 year old tells on her. I'm just glad I live on a private dirt road in the country. Within the 150 acres around me all are related to each other. I moved into the middle of a clan lol. i keep them in eggs and they love my kids so no worries from them but snakes are my concern. I saw a cooper head in the road run over yesterday across the blacktop road. About 400 yrd from my house. I have seen gartners and blue tailed one down by the now dry creek. Found a king snake in the field. The chickens found and ate a little rat snake this week-end. They where fighting over it. I leave them alone. my main coop is snake/rodent proof. The babies are not as secured, but too big now for a snake unless it is a real big one. Ahh the trials of living the the counrty.
You want king snakes around your home. They prey on copperheads! I catch up everyone I can find and release here. We have lived here 22 years and I have not seem a copperhead on my farm yet...knock on wood. I use greenhouse shade cloth on my runs with bantams and it would be ideal for chicks. I cover the top and around the bottom. It keeps everyone in, keeps overhead predators out and keeps the sun off a bit. It is cheap so you may want to consider it. I have hawks that nest over behind me....They have circled a few times and I holler at them til they move on. So far my problem has been a very intelligent raccoon. If I don't trap him tonight I guess I will be sitting with my rifle tomorrow night. Good Luck!

We had a huge problem with our neighbors dogs...I lost 8 kid goats one spring and they could not do anything until I had proof. SO....I sit with my camera...caught them in my field chasing my goats and got the pics. The next day they came and took the dogs and fined the neighbors. Morristown has always had a problem with their AC since Glen left for a different position. Here in Jefferson out AC is in with the Sheriffs department rather than the humane society. He is ex-military and he does his job very well. AND...he is very serious about what he does. I would do like one of our members suggested and call a TV news station. I would tell them the dog has charged you...if that does not get them out I would call the Sheriffs dept. and ask for their help telling them AC can't seem to come out.

If all else fails..give the people 1 warning and if that is ignored you have the right to kill the dogs as they are being a threat to your livestock, their is a leash law and they are also a threat to you a as a person. I have had to do it and it is not easy but....nether is loosing my animals.

Im sorry to hear that stang

Chloe was 200.00 and I really liked the breeder. I know it's a lot (trust me I was furious when Kim said we were getting her) but like I said, the breeder was great and you could easily find yourself paying nearly half that in a "rehoming" fee for a problem animal.
It turns my stomach when I hear about those problems because I know it was not the dogs fault, but until they outlaw stupid there is not a whole lot we can do to those that mentally or physically abuse their pets. Trust me, the thoughts I have about what I would like to do to them is probably a sin
