I can not believe that the broody bug made it over this far to me. Black cochin went broody yesterday and has not left the box once...she has got to be hot.

Daph.....Ill take a pic tomorrow of those six chicks that made it from your eggs. They are doing very well

oh yea... Megan wants a bantam and I told her she could get one. Silver Seabright cockeral is her first choice, but she would consider any bantam cockeral she can start showing. You all know bantams are not my strong point so feel free to pipe in if you have something she might enjoy with the shows.

If you can't find a seabright I have some nice black D'Uccles she could have. Black has sure been a dominant factor for me this year and given their sweet personality I think they would be ideal for children. My black roo is beautiful but I go more for the colorful chickens.
Glad to see you back....I knew the job you where on was pretty big so I was giving you til the weekend to see you here and if not was coming a looking for ya. Give Kim a big hug for me...we all need to catch up!!

This is a non=chicken related thing but if anyone knows of someone who shows or breeds or just wants Tennessee Walking horses have them contact me. I have decided to sell all of mine. It has been a terribly hard decision but I have to face the reality that I am really never going to be able to ride like I use to and keeping all of them is just a big expense I could use on something else. Believe me this has been a long and hard decision. They are well pedigreed and strong show quality. But they need a purpose more than my just watching them in the field. Thanks!!

Hey Ya'll,
I'm realy new here, and I just happened to stumble upon this thread. I am not sure if I'm even posting in the correct area, but I'm in East Tennessee and I'm looking for two or three, two or three week old pullets. I was planning to visit a place this weekend, but I've stumbled upon so not so stellar reviews and I'd rather not buy my chickens there. I really wanted to take my five year old niece to help me pick them out, but if there are a large number of dead birds around, I'd rather take her somewhere else. I'm not looking for anything fancy. Maybe some Orpingtons or another hardy, friendly breed. I only want them for eggs and pets, not for meat or show. I just thought someone here could point me in the right direction. I greatly appreciate any information.

Welcome to our thread....yes..you are at the right place! We are a pretty chatty group...have picnics together and stay pretty active. If you are looking specifically for orpingtons try tennesseeckn and she is in your area. She has some wonderful English Orps that you would really love. If there are others you are considering just post it here and if none of us have it I am sure someone will know who does! I have 1 lavender....think it is going to be a pullet but it is around 3 months old. Among out group we have a pretty good selection. I can't believe people would let someone come to look at their chickens to buy and dead carcasses laying around??? Not good!

I have a feeling I know what place she is talking about. There is a certain hatchery located close to cookeville that has a couple threads on this site with folks who had visited claiming to have seen dead birds. If that hatchery has the initials P.H. then I can say I got my first 5 ducks from them and I only have positive things to say about their birds hardiness. I've had them over a year and never had any disease or health issues.

My word of caution about them is that they don't claim to follow the SOP at all. So they might sell you a bird that looks nothing like what you would expect.

. A big welcome to you and our little piece of backyard chickens. I too think I heard that tennesseeckn had some young ones or will have some new hatches very soon. She takes extremely good care of her chickens and im sure you would be happy. Im not sure if the other half dozen folks near your area have anything coming up or not. Im sure they will see this though and let you know what they might have.
Please feel free to ask any questions you have at all....one of us has probably been through whatever it might be and probably have some sort of an answer.

ohhh.. ADD moment. Daph Im heading out there now to take those pics, lol
