Id say that was the case, I was told never above 30% with 50 eggs

I was going to try that as well...but I had heard to let it go as high as it can on day 18. Now im nervous I will drown them? I figured I would keep it between 25-35 day 1-17.

It has happened to me more than once that I forgot to move a couple eggs due to hatch into the incubator I use for the last 3 days. The surprising thing is.....every time all the eggs hatched. Just had it happen tonight. SO far one chick out and another pipped. I just turn off the turner til I can get them out and transfer to the other one til all are done. I have tried high humidity...low...med. Now I just pour water in when it gets below 20. I keep the temp at 99.
So...I wonder sometimes if we may over think some of our problems in hatching. I am the queen of staggered hatching.....seriously...

Currently I have 15 eggs in the incubator that in which 2 or 3 will hatch every couple days. This is also something interesting....these are eggs that where from the hens during the waiting period on worming. I wondered if the wormer affected fertility. Out of 16 eggs only 1 did not develop. I think Mother Nature just looks at me and shakes her head.

Laughing dog...I don't think what you saw was an actual eagle. There are only 2 hacks in the area and neither are very close to this area in order to hunt here. One reason birds of prey are more prevalent in cold weather is they can see the prey easier because trees are bare. When they go in for prey it is usually in an open area which makes it easier for them to manuvier. The TWRA agent here and I rescued an injured hawk which I transported to our local wildlife rehabilator. There is a nest behind my house and the hawk does sit in front some days eyeing my hens....I just tell her to leave and keep everyone in for the day.

I know I've seen bald eagles on Norris lake. Another bird that can look similar to the bald eagle is the osprey. Similar coloring, habitat, and prey. I also saw a falcon that looked very similar to a peregrine a couple days ago in Andersonville. I never realized how small those birds are...

yes ive seen one pair of osprey, but there is a huge difference if youve worked with birds of prey under fed gov pros (TWRA doesnt count in my book, and thats even next to DNR, as they cant tell differences between most animals only remotely similar looking even when different species), and seen next to each other having worked with multiple types. you can also find bald eagles around sevier county as seen them soaring over and "fishing" or skimming, and feeding on roadkill and one dead from (most dont realize bald eagles are found nowadays to be more scavengers, and why they get hit by cars), out in mountains more. ive seen kestrels around here, and they are tiny, and not nearly as large as sometimes similar looking peregrines (i actually only remember actually seeing one peregrine, but hear them around town were city pigeons are). i bird watch.. it gives me the illusion of freedom! lol i also used to do falconry (which is a true sport, not just blasting away with a high powered long range gun), and had a very large peregrine falcon.. what oddly first got me interested in pigeons then chickens maybe even.

Ahh kestrel! I knew there was a smaller peregrine looking bird but I was having an extended brain fart as to the name. Thanks for clearing that up...

no prob, i get the names mixed up at times, as there are several local names for each in different areas aside from common names. just dont depend on me to be able to tell a lot of pigeon and some chicken types still! lol

Anyone know if there is going to be any nearby chicken shows/swaps in the near future? Daughter and I went to the Cooke county one in Nov, and can't wait to go to another!
