Proud momma. She hatched 5, I put one from the bator in with her a week later and then another the following week from a staggered hatch. She is great to watch with the 7 little ones.
All chicks were using the water nipples at 4 days old
She took them outside to scratch around at 5 days old. Incredible to watch the way she does it compared to how much we worry about the brooder temp for a month or more...LOL

Quote: Yes..it is pretty amazing. I did a coop clean today and opened up the run gate so they would stay well away of the dust. Mom was the first one out the gate with all her chicks in tow. Even Mr. Kellogs my rooster stayed within a few feet and kept a watchful eye (good rooster![]()
If you want lovey dovey you would like the Belgium D'Uccles. A couple of mine fly up on my shoulder when I come it. They are very personable and beautiful birds. Some people will keep them like parrots because of their size and personality. If you ever decide you are interested I have ALOT that I have got to sell.Cool - well if you happen to come across any bantam cochins please holler at me, Dunlap is very reasonable drive for me.
I am getting so desperate but trying to be patient, so I don't give in and order from a hatchery.
Because my current six (bantam cochins) are getting to that age of startng to do their thing & didn't want them mixing, I relocated 10 mixed to my daughters yesterday into a new bantam "mutt"/nursery coop they built. It was some what heart breaking to take them over there (although they are only 8 minutes away) but there are three White silkies and then 8 mixed cochins. Never really bonded too much to the silkies, although we got them at 3 months old they would eat out of my hand but are still not the lovey dovey things like some of the other little ones. Of the 8 mixed (all @ 2-3 months old) 5 (raised from a couple days old) of them would jump on my lap, fly up on my shoulder etc. just too sweet and I will miss sitting with them several times a day.
I do have 6 laying hens (bought at 5 months old, they are coming around to being friendlier), looking to add a couple more & I have 9 - (one week old) Meek's line, blue and splash langshans & a pr. of SL wyandottes.
Okay, so yes please please keep me in mind if you come across any BANTAM COCHINS (other than blk and/or barred/molted) - thanks
