Okay, I couldn't get my chickens to really take to the yogart. So I cooked 3 cups of oatmeal today (first time they ever had oats) and poured yogart on top of it. They went at it like I was giving them crack. What are some other ways to trick them? Do they eat grits? I tried the cheerio treats. Not interested.

Also one last question, and then I'll quit posting. (I know I get on your nerves, but I'm learning) We are getting ready to cut down all of our tomatoe plants. Can I give them all the left over tomatoes that are still good? Too many tomatoes bad for them?
Tomatoes are not BAD but too many and they will stop laying for awhile. Tomatoes and fruit.... and too much scratch too for some reason. But no... it won't hurt them and that is exactly what I do with my tomatoes.

Terry,

When dad was at TSC Morristown yesterday the lady in charge was talking about having a couple more sales for the year.

The next sale is October 13th.

She was also talking about doing an Sale / Exhibit next time.

What she told dad was bring the ones for sale and if he wanted, bring some just to show.
Strictly informal from what I understand, just so people might get to see a few different breeds.
You should talk to her and get more information.
(Dad does get confused sometimes, or he is too busy talking to listen to what is being said.)

@Everyone

Are we going to try to have a final picnic for the year.
I know we have a show in Newport but that is in November, might be kinda cool.

I know we have a LOT of new members that we all would like to put a face to.

Besides I am having withdrawals, (missing stangs cupcakes)

What is everyone's opinions on this?

I thought I would give them a shot at layer pellets.

The 1st sack that I fed out was good and they laid well on it.

The 2nd sack is 1/3 fines.

It doesn't do well in my 10 pound feeder and the hens don't like fines.

Fines=dust or corn mill texture.

I left them on Starter/Grower Crumbles over the same thing.

Is am one else had this problem with them or any other feed mill?

I am pretty sure that they are holding back on the binder that holds the pellet together.

I've never had this problem with TSC's Dumor feed.

I plan on taking this sack back to Washington County Farmers Coop on Monday afternoon, after I get up to go work night shift.

Sorry to all the co-op fans, but I HATE co-op feed. Doesn't matter what the animal. I have the division called "Foothills Farmers Co-op" and it is low quality, inconsistant, and prices are no so much better that I feel comfortable with that. So, I'm with you on this. Go back to Dumor... you do realize Dumor IS Purina, right? Again, I worked at TSC and honestly... it's not "kinda" Purina... is IS Purina packaged just for TSC.

You might be able to find a local feed store (mom and pop) who knows their stuff. I get my goat feed from East TN Feed and Seed because they have a special "home made" blend for goats that is perfect... but chickens... I choose Dumor.

Tnchickenut, what kind of goat do you have? I am looking into getting one.

Well, I can't eat the eggs since we wormed them. And out of seven hens, only two are old enough to lay eggs. So good on the tomatoes?
