Eastern Washington

We actually fired up the grill yesterday for dinner!

I'm a vegetarian, so we used MorningStar Farms veggie bacon and Gardein steak bites. I marinated everything in a pineapple white balsamic/basil oil/teriyaki sauce with some culinary lavender spices. It was amazeballs.

I am loving my parrot tulips. So happy nice weather is here!

Mr. Bear is not vegetarian, and has been known to eat chicken in front of the chickens...which just seems wrong to me...

Thanks! The tulips are Blumex Parrot tulips, and they've pretty much lost all their petals now, but they were lovely while they lasted! I still have some pink tulips blooming, though.

Husband is going skydiving over near Seattle this afternoon with a bunch of our friends for one of their bachelor parties. I'm pretty much going to be worried sick until he calls me, which he's been instructed to do the moment he is back on terra firma.

Chae and maggierose, I'm part of the veg-club, too. It did look just like chicken kabobs! You're both funny!

I've been reading the posts on here, but haven't logged in for days. I'm in such a hurry to get my day started. Making really good progress on the coop/run. Days are so wonderfully warm, and a nice afternoon breeze is most welcome. Has anyone else noticed the trees blooming mush more prolifically than usual? Maybe they needed the extra moisture that the late snows brought.

chickengarden, I saw you were on here a couple days ago. Is the work getting more routine now? Hope you're doing well.

Everyone have a great Mothers' Day weekend. Chae, this one counts for you, too. By the way, "amazeballs"?!!!

Chae, I hope your hubby remembers to call you right away! I used to think I wanted to go skydiving but now that I am older my toes tingle just at the thought.
Vicki, glad you are getting lots done. I am very task oriented and love when things get finished or sometimes even just started!
I don't think things will be down to just routine for a while yet. There's just so much stuff to get under control here. Sometimes we feel so overwhelmed and other times we aren't and we think, man, we have lots of time to do such and such. (For those of you who don't know, we bought a very run down house on a couple acres in the country. Then we loaded up on goats, more chickens, ducks and a few guineas and one turkey.)
We just got the electric wire on the new goat yard this morning. It's funny how you can build a super sturdy fence but goats will eventually wear it out by pushing and standing on it. You have to electrify it after you build it to save it.
My wonderful neighbor also took down 4 scrappy trees with his chainsaw so my garden now qualifies as "full sun". I don't know if it's all neighbors out in the country being more friendly and helpful but we've really noticed the difference.
Maggie, my lilacs are blooming too. It's one of my absolutely favorite smells.
Have a great weekend everyone :)

Chae your grilled fare looks delish! We have been BBQing a few times a week now, oh how I missed it!

I have been loving the warm weather..except when I am at work, it's exhausting!

chickengarden, since going rural (and we are only 15mi out of Spokane) I have noticed a big increase in friendliness. I love it! I've even accidentally not shut my door all the way a few times & come home to it wide open..and no one stole our stuff lol! Enjoy your homesteading adventure! Your kids will have so many awesome childhood memories :)

We are in such a frustrating microclimate. The temperature swings are insane. We had 90* and frost this week but getting ready to plant the garden anyway! It's all covered in straw/compost and 2 truckloads of humanure from the local wastewater reclamation facility...just need to plant what we have & bring home some crops from the greenhouse!
