Eastern Washington

Something killed Rosie. :( I'm devastated.

She was such a sweet girl, and our best layer, after her trip to the vet.

Whiski, I LOVE the photos of your farm! I want to go to there :)

Chae, I am so sorry about Rosie. I always smile when I think of that photo of her checking out her bum at the vet.

I took my camera to work the other day, we are finally starting to wind down the crazy :)

Chae, I am so sorry! We haven't lost any of our grown birds yet, and I know it will be a sad day. My daughter named one of this year's chicks, a blue-laced red Wyandotte, Rosie. Hope she is as sweet as yours was.

Thank you. My poor husband is taking it really hard, both the carnage he sweetly spared me from having to deal with and the guilt of consciously leaving the girls unlocked that night. I know he'll feel better with time, but right now he's really beating himself over it.

Our baby shower is this afternoon, and people will expect him to be happy and sociable. I know he doesn't want to miss it, but I don't know if he'll be up to that.

oh Chae (and hubby) so sorry to hear of your loss... that is so hard. I hope everyone at the shower was understanding of your grief.

Here's to better days ahead, and awaiting that special litttle one.

Dogs were barking like crazy, so I opened the door to find a coyote on the front lawn, broad daylight, bold as can be. The dogs were happy to see him off. Coincidence that today was the first day I let my 8-week pullets free range? Spooky!

Does anyone still check this thread out? I am in Eastern Washington, between Cheney and Colfax. I have to be vague about my whereabouts, sorry. Ex issues, if you follow me. We currently have 4 grown RIRs and 4 BOs, all of whom are 1 year old, roughly. (Got them last Spring) We are also broodering (is that a verb?) 14 chicks; 5 Black Jersey Giants, 5 Australorps, and 4 BOs. It was 5 BOs, but one died today. :( I am wondering if anyone ever gets together, just to chatter about their birds, or show them off to each other? I'd actually love to figure out how to set up a chicken show for the folks in our area. We homeschool, so any opp to socialize is a good one. :) How do you do a 'chickenstock'? Is that a play on Woodstock? Just a social gathering to learn and make friends? I'd love to learn more! Thanks, one and all.
