Easy squeazy home made candler

It looks like they just ripped the paper label off. A lot of the paint cans I've seen lately are black plastic like that.

Great idea! I worried about my first time candling... and how I could minimize possible dropping of the egg. This is brilliant and simple!

Cheers!

It was a black plastic can, but I left the layer of dried white pain inside to help reflect eh light back.

I don't have any old paint cans lying around but have plenty of old coffee cans. I'm thinking about adapting your idea to use one of those instead. Thanks!

LOL! You "Candle" eggs you are trying to hatch to see if the chicks are developing. Sometimes you candle before you put them in the incubator to see if their cells are good and their air sacks intact if they were shipped. Usually you candle after 7 to 10 days in the incubator then at day 17 or 18 right before the final lock down phase of incubating.

We have 5 more days to go before we can candle this batch and my husband is nervously hovering.

Ohhhh....haha. Thanks.

Hi! I have one similar made with a coffee can (my socket is in the bottom of the can instead of on the side). Works like a charm!

I saved this thread and finally took the time to take an old lamp apart that I was going to throw away and built a candler from your idea Columbiacritter. Thanks for sharing.
