EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

13F doesn't allow for liquid poultry water.
Yeah, but it freezes a sight slower than poultry water at -20F.

At 13F I only have to break ice maybe twice a day. I don't enjoy having to make more frequent trips than that.

If it's warmer, say mid 20Fs, it's frequently snowier and the snow isn't quite as dry. Sustained work will make your clothes sopping. 30sF is just miserable.

My goodness..
If there is a fine line between sanity and insanity, it is probably a tight rope. Had to drop down to 2 bators when 1 died, but it was for the best.
Was getting too good of hatch rates after buying that hydrometer. The population explosion has begun.
Instead of a hatch day 3 times a month, down to twice, but just as much hatches with a higher success rate.

5 am today.. Cheep cheep cheep! Here we go, it's showtime!

Already had the broody ready of course. Flipped the bulb on and adjusted the height to achieve 98-99°f.

The 3 little monsters were rolling my other alien pods around I zoinked them out half wet.. Carefully adjusted the remaining pods and tweaked the humidity back to a desirable %.

I have 8 brooders in operation at the moment. That tight rope balancing thingy is tricky. Just don't look down! You might get spooked and fall! Or notice you are out of space..
Going to be another eventful day. And I love it! That is the insane part I suppose.

Rotated the next batch in the other room and my eyes played tricks on me! I thought I saw peep holes in them!
I keep saying to myself, don't fall off the rope Connie!!

So here is a head scratcher.. My LG digital meter is worth less, I have already established that fact in previous posts.
I use a pretty reliable aux meter for measuring relative humidity. I have added and subtracted warm water to achieve my desired window of optimum levels at 59 to 65% humidity.
Question: Why am I getting still attached umbilical cords still?
IMG_20170808_114318.jpg
the shell did detach a millisecond before the camera snapped the pic but it was dangling prior.
Granted it was not thick and gooey. What's up with my cord controversy?
Should I drop the humidity below 50%? I have the Turkey bastor in my hand ready to go and waiting for an honest opinion to pop up.
:caf

My eggs are on lockdown. When I candled then I had one that I could see the chick, much smaller then the others and there was a red ring around the bottom, so guessing that one didn't make it? All others had lots of movements and really good formation of air cells. Some of the eggs were almost completely filled by the chicks, except the air cell. Are these more likely to hatch first? Or are they just biguns?:yesss:

Also the humidity is reading a bit low at 50%, add more water?
I don't have a clue about which egg will hatch first. But too much humidity can cause trouble. I would leave that factor alone if your meter is accurate.
Just an opinion. I am not a doctor, but I play one on tv.

It seems like an infection called blood rings.

A sucked out 2 water journals with my trusty Turkey bastor. Opened the lid and fanned out the moist air with a flap from a cardboard box. Closed the lid. Came back 10 min later and my aux meter reads 58%. Prior to that it spiked at 75%. I had get it down before they drowned. I have seven little aliens out of their pods in the brooder. Seeing the world for the first time! Their first view of the new world is an old cracked worn out cow water troff.. Hahaha..:lau
