Egg 3 is dead..Graphic photos

This last week is going to go so slow... I am so excited for you. I still get just as excited as my first with every hatch. Its amazing to see their wobbly little bodies flop out of the egg. Its an amazing feeling to incubate an egg and bring into the world a new little fuzz butt.

OK...Im not ment to go into lockdown untill Wed the 12th. Tonight I candled the eggs to see how we are getting on and I can see movement in the air sack...lots of it, bopping up and down like a darn loonatic..
Should I be seeing this already or what?

I sometimes see that a day or two before lockdown too, but it may mean early lockdown for you. Candle twice a day & as soon as you see a bill in the air sac, lock 'em down. That's what I do, anyway. I tend to get early hatches--I think my incubator runs a quarter degree high--it's hard to tell because the thermometer doesn't measure half degrees. Good luck! It's soooo exciting. I can't wait to see what you get & take guesses on the who's the daddy (should be obvious by adulthood, but maybe not in ducklinghood?). Good luck to the little booger!!

I dont know if its his bill or not, it wouldnt stay still long enough for me to ask it....But alot of movement up in there anyway we dont know if it was a wing, its side, its head, a leg, butt or what. I was quite shocked...wasnt expecting that. So do you think I should wait till the morning then go into lockdown

When the bill goes into the air sac, a lot of that motion will calm down. It will just look like a pointy shadow in the air sac (unless you have a better candler than I do). I think what you're seeing is the baby pushing experimentally against the air sac, in preparation to poke through. Once it pokes through, it will keep its bill in the air sac because it will now have to breathe air to survive. If you're not sure, I'd say leave it until at least tomorrow. Good luck!

Come on little ducky... It was most likely either the beak you could see if it was kind of in the middle of the aircell. If it was down along the bottom of the air cell- that is where I first see movement when they get into position for hatching - that is the ducklings back you can see. Once you have see a few hatch you will get a better idea of what body part you are seeing when.

I am so wishing you were closer and I could lend or give you a friend for your little one when it hatches. I have 4 eggs pipped tonight out of nine eggs and have just had the reality of a full incubator hit me. With so many of my " borrowed " ducks eggs...and the dozen that were given to me when I returned them- I still have 43 eggs in the incubator, 13 already hatched over the last 3 weeks in brooders inside the house and 22 adults or nearly grown ducks outside. I am so glad that none of my breeres are laying at the moment. I really will be needing a break for a while after these ones all hatch.

Well I checked him this morning and he must be sleeping. There was movement but not like last night, good god he was all over the place. I figured he must of getting into position getting ready to pip. Lockdown is tomorrow morning for him. I keep saying him because my luck isnt all that good that my 1st hatching duckling is going to be a girl for me to keep. Im betting on 2 drakes and 1 hen.
Ducky...at least with him being on his own for 5 to 6 days that he will be friendly and get lots of cuddles and handling. Just you put a little ducky in the post for me...add a few more as packing peanuts, Ill pay the postage

If you go into a really dark room & candle with a very bright light, can you see a shadow sticking up in the air sac? If he has slowed way down, he may already have pipped. Or maybe not. Ugh. I wish I were there to help too. It'll all be okay, even if he pips before lockdown, it's just hard to listen and not get to lookie too. I wanna see!!

I'm going to go do something else now, so I won't obsess over your eggs.

Im getting ready to put him into lockdown and did my last candling. We could see a yellow yolk smudge on the inside of the egg up by the air sack, right on the border of the dark area. Hes moving around like a loony in there . Should I bee seeing this or not.
