Egg Song! Glorious Egg Song!

UPDATE! Well, she FINALLY laid her egg! I'm telling you, I have never ever seen a hen that bwoks continuously for over an hour like she does! And yes, she laid it up in the sand poop tray....again! I have got to figure out a way to break her of this habit she's gotten herself into. Anyone??

I had 2 that insisted the place to lay was on top of our bar-b-q. I would pack them to the nest & they would run back to the bar-b-q. This would go on for quite some time but finally put their treasure in the nest. I read somewhere to put a golf ball in the nest & they think it's an egg so I've done that & it seems to work. All the others have gone right to the nest. Might be worth a try. I bought mine at the 2nd hand store.

I can't give you any insight about your Australorps. Mine are are 20+ weeks old and not laying yet. BUT I did rehome my guinea fowl. Not only were they bothering me, but a neighbor came over to complain. I was very relieved to find a tanker right away. All quiet on the northern front. Aaaah.
Yes! That's exactly what I'm thinking is the next move to take. She's a persistent gal, that's for sure! Thanks for reminding me...I'm off to find a piece of plywood that'll work!

I had to laugh...the BBQ pit!!??!!! Oh, I have golf balls in the nest boxes, have for some time. Today I even went so far as whenever I'd see her on the webcam in there bwoking her head off I'd go out to the coop and slowly and gently put her in one of the nest boxes, then pet her and talk quietly to her....soon as I stood up and turned my back...........outta the coop for her!! Drives me nutso!

No, not a pit. Just a regular bar-b-q. They'd hop up on top of it & back up against the wall!
Sorry, can't help. The golf ball trick worked for me. Good luck!

@iwiw60 Our girlies talked a lot when they first started laying too... and would lay everywhere! We keep ours in the run until mid to late afternoon to encourage 'nest time' rather than 'let's lay eggs all over the place' time. The golf balls in the nesting boxes also seem to help. Occasionally, someone gets to the hay in the barn

late in the evening to lay there... but at least i know where to look!!!

I'm one happy chicken mama today!!! Look what my new layer (she's been laying since 8/5) gave me today:

The white egg on the left is a store-bought X-large...and then there's.....MINE!! Doing flips here!!
