Egg Song! Glorious Egg Song!

I don't believe I've heard the egg song, but I came home today from being away for 9 days and this was waiting for me, still warm.
I have two 17 1/2 week Black Australorp, four 17 1/2 week Buff Orpingtons, five 16 1/2 week Rhode Island Red, and five 16 1/2 week Cuckoo Marans
.
That's a nice looking egg. Congratulations!

I love hearing it but, i have 4 hens and only one sings. She sings before she enters the coop, whilst she's in the coop, and after she's layed, but she doesn't stop!

I have 22 hens currently laying ( several different breeds ) they all have a different egg song but some can really be vocal. I guess its their way of letting us know that they just laid an egg. It can get a bit loud when there are several in the laying boxes at once. For some reason my chickens like to double up in the nesting boxes even though there are lots of vacant boxes available. Anyone have any ideas why this occurs?

Gals like to be with their gals or there's competition for the nest. Just like a kid, when one has something the other one wants it! Just like how they "run" when one has something and the others run after her to get it away from her.
You don't need one nest per hen. One nest for every 5 hens is good.

First time I heard the egg song, I freaked out!!!!

Day after I got my first flock of 5 adult hens, 4 pullets and 1 rooster, I hear this VERY loud, multi-voiced ruckus and went tearing out to the coop thinking something was killing my new chickens....all the hens, and the rooster standing on the roost board, were singing the egg song at top volume. Cracked me up!! Still does sometimes.

Much less amusing is the very loud, crabby complaining of a hen impatient for what I think is probably a particular already occupied nest. Geeeeessshh!

I kind of chuckle when prospective chicken keepers living in the city anticipate noise complaint problems from roosters crowing....they have no idea how loud hens can be!

My Aussies are 17 weeks old. Combs and wattles are coming in and have turned red over the past week. No squatting yet though, and no one has started singing. The anticipation is killing me!

Haha! I'm dying laughing.. One of mine is a complainer... She complains about EVERYTHING!! I swear she's part ROO bc she is soooo LOUD... I just laugh at her... I CANNOT wait to hear mine sing!!

It's funny, some of the ladies lay their egg and create no fuss about it at all while others let the entire neighborhood know what wonderful thing just happened. Some of them seem to encourage a singalong and everyone joins in with the roosters being the most enthusiastic of all. Sometimes the song is all about somebody else daring to be in their very favorite nest and won't get out. Chickens are most unusual critters.

Egg watch: Nothing yet. Lots of squatting going on and lots of interest in the nesting boxes. Holly Hobbie (RIR) is now wanting to sit in the nest for a bit and pecks at any of the others if they try to squeeze in there with her. My squatting Easter egger, squats nearly every time I'm around her. I just ruffle her feathers a bit and she stands up and shakes. Goofy critters. LOL

My first chickens are 16 weeks old tomorrow. I'm dying for my first egg lol. My golden comets have grown in their combs and wattles and are getting rather red in the face. Same with a couple of my EEs.I heard one of my silkies singing the egg song a few days ago and they have wattles grown in now (then again, still not sure they're even girls lol). The waiting is horrible! My one little roo routinely sings the egg wind though lol.
