I loved hearing my hens sing, but sadly only two would sing and one of them just died. So now I only have one loud hen. BUT, my rooster likes to join in and sing with her which is so funny to hear!
Oh! I'm so insanely jealous of your fantastic morning!!! I have 4 Black Australorp young ladies, they are 16-17 weeks now, and I'm anxiously awaiting the 'submissive squat' and my first egg(s)...WAAAAaaaaaaaa!!!!I had a really fun morning.
While Astrid (Buff Orp) was laying egg #12, Florence (Silver Wyandotte) went into the coop to watch and coo with her. After a while, Flo went to nest and pretty quickly laid her first egg followed by a quiet egg song, the first we've heard around here. A bit after that, while Astrid is still on her nest, Minty (Black Austro) hopped up on the coop porch and starts serenading Astrid with a loud and VERY long egg song and Astrid joined in for the first time ever!!! Half an hour later, Minty went to nest and laid her first egg, with Astrid still on her nest. When I opened the nest box to look for Minty's egg, Astrid started singing again and let me stroke her back. This was also a first. She hasn't been squatting even thogh she's been laying for two weeks.
Three eggs in one day... Three more hens to start... Many more eggs to come!!!
I just love your happy face tearing, so darn cute. I'm laughing. I feel the same way. My chicks are 21 wks still nothing no egg song yet. Oh well, it's there schedule.Oh! I've also noticed that 2 of the 4's combs and wattles are getting much redder than the other 2.....hoping, hoping that soon one of my gals will be singing the egg song, too! Wishing you well....![]()
