We did a spot of food shopping on Saturday. They must have just had a delivery of eggs, because I've never seen such a choice, yet we go often. One of the choices was Old Cotswold Legbar eggs. It relatively rare to actually have the brred written on the box, so I pointed them out to my OH. I told him I had been trying to find eggs of these hens for incubating. He said he didn't think they would hatch. My brain clicked. It hadn't even occurred to me to try incubating them lol. I was just making conversation! So we got two boxes and 6 are in the incubator.

I know it's a long shot, but it'd be amazing if they DID hatch! On the box, it says "Amazing eggs from amazing birds."'Birds', not 'hens! Maybe they have cockerels too? Who knows! I wish I'd taken the time to study the eggs in the boxes first. They seem very porous

Good luck. I've heard of others being able to do this.

The shop I got them from is the equivilent to a Walmart where you are. I don't know if you find many fertile eggs there, but I'd never heard of anyone buying fertile eggs here.

One thing I feel REALLY stupid about... We got two boxes: one for me to incubate and the other for my OH to eat. A cleverer person might have checked the pan to see if they were fertile before wasting 6 eggs...

this probably isnt going to help much but there was a programme on tv over here (uk) a while ago that tried this, they bought eggs from various places. a supermarket, a petrol station, a farmers market etc and incubated them.

some of them hatched, iirc the best hatchers were the petrol station eggs!

has to be worth a try imo
