Eight Week Old Rooster Pullet

Coloration is wrong for Welsummer.

I'm thinking maybe an Early blooming Partridge Rock pullet.

My welsummer cockerel at about 12 weeks.View attachment 2532285View attachment 2532287
Yeah he does look pretty similar actually... The front of the neck isn't as dark on mine but the stature and everything else looks pretty similar... Could just be variation in coloring. Huh. I'll try to get more photos when he gets older too.

Okay.

McMurray hatchery includes one free "mystery" chick with each order, usually a male of some rare breed. I don't know if other hatcheries do it too, but I think that's what LateBirdFarms is referring to.
Ohhhhhh. We got ours from Hoover's. It doesn't say anything about a bonus chick on the website for either ISA browns or welsummers... But maybe it's different deals for different times of year. Either way that's sort of an exciting gimmick. Bonus rooster... Huh!

Exactly what @NatJ said. I'm not lucky enough to be able to enjoy the freedom of ordering anything but production breeds from large hatcheries where I'm at, but I know a lot do send the occasional extra, almost always male, in the colder shipping months, so that was my guess with your little guy

Oh yeah he kinda does look like a partridge plymouth. His neck is pretty light though...
I'm pretty sure at this point you're right. We got him from Hoover's and from the images of the other breeds they sell at the hatchery, he's shaping up to be a pretty convincing partridge plymouth.
