You did what you could to help. It is good practice for what to do in situations like this. Some times you save them and sometimes you don't.

It was likely crushed too much by the broody.

Oh angel, don't blame yourself! You did your best for that baby. Did he get his organs pulled out or just pass away for an unknown reason? Regardless, you intervened in a critical situation, and the outcome was not predictable. That baby would have died out there. You gave the little one a chance. Please try and be easy on yourself. There were no visible veins in the membrane, I think a lot of us would have helped too.
