I would think that the broody knew they needed to hatch. They are usually good at that!

There is a little blood and gunk on the navel. Do I clean it before I add the antibiotic ointment?

Yes! Clean but do not tug on anything. The danger is pulling out the intestines.

Can you brood it for a day to make sure it is ok? Then put it in with momma broody

In this picture it doesn't look like it's closed up all the way, so I would put some antibiotic ointment on it carefully to prevent infection. Looks like absorption was done but the naval hadn't quite closed up all the way.

It should close up on its own within the next day.
