He would have benefited from a little more time in the egg (I personally wouldn't have taken him out yet), but what's done is done. If he were mine, with the belly that open, I'd actually be sitting him back in what's left of the shell and propping him up in a cup lined with paper towels to keep him still while that finishes absorbing and closing. After seeing this picture I actually wouldn't try applying anything for now.
