EMERGENCY hen recovered from bumble foot is extremely bloated and wierd comb

I was able to treat my other hen with Epsom salt soaks and oils like vet rx
VetRX is a respiratory aid. It helps clear up stuffy noses, & stuff like that. It's pretty much Vick's Vapo Rub for chickens. Doesn't treat anything else.

Epsom Salt soaks won't help with this either.

Heart failure may be happening, but ascites is surely a possibility. Do you have an 18 gauge needle, or a large sewing needle that you can sterilize (burn with a lighter.) You could try draining her abdomen of the possible ascites fluid (water belly.) Clean the skin of her belly with alcohol, Betadine, chlorhexidene, etc. Then insert the needle just into the skin of the belly. Withdrawal fluid with a syringe or let it drain into a towel. It probably will continue to drain once the needle is taken out. There can be a risk of infection or death, so this is not a simple thing to do. Here is post 42 are some pictures of a hen being drained:

I am willing to try this, as an experienced chicken keeper, do you think I should do this instead of putting her down even though there is a chance of death. And how long do you think I have until I need to do it, because I need to buy a needle, get help and do more research

I had a hen with a water belly a few years ago. After noticing her wobbly walk and strange belly, she got worse very quick. I made her a comfortable nest in a small cage to sleep in but still in connection with the others. Put water and food in front of her and kept her company when I could. She probably didn't eat or drink anymore. The other hens visited her or the food in front of her (hard to tell).

I didn’t see or hear anything that indicated pain. The next morning I found her dead in the cage.

Of course I don’t know for sure if your hen has the same issue and I don't know if it’s better to kill her asap. But I didn’t, and I believe it was the right thing to let her pass in a natural way.

PS writing at the time Eggcessive posted. Hope the drain will work. Good luck. 💙

I’ve decided to do the draining, is there any thing I can do to keep her comfortable until I can Safely do the draining in a day or two, because I need to gather supplies and educate myself
