I was able to treat my other hen with Epsom salt soaks and oils like vet rxNot sure what treatment you're referring to.
VetRX is a respiratory aid. It helps clear up stuffy noses, & stuff like that. It's pretty much Vick's Vapo Rub for chickens. Doesn't treat anything else.I was able to treat my other hen with Epsom salt soaks and oils like vet rx
Not really. Is there anything else I can do
Ok thankyou, if they say the same thing then i gues I’ll have to put her down I’m just not willing to give up on her easily if I can do something no matter what it isNot really.
But I did tag some others that may suggest things. But may agree on the verdict.
I am willing to try this, as an experienced chicken keeper, do you think I should do this instead of putting her down even though there is a chance of death. And how long do you think I have until I need to do it, because I need to buy a needle, get help and do more researchHeart failure may be happening, but ascites is surely a possibility. Do you have an 18 gauge needle, or a large sewing needle that you can sterilize (burn with a lighter.) You could try draining her abdomen of the possible ascites fluid (water belly.) Clean the skin of her belly with alcohol, Betadine, chlorhexidene, etc. Then insert the needle just into the skin of the belly. Withdrawal fluid with a syringe or let it drain into a towel. It probably will continue to drain once the needle is taken out. There can be a risk of infection or death, so this is not a simple thing to do. Here is post 42 are some pictures of a hen being drained:
