If you can keep him in the dark, even without the hood, he should stay quiet.
I've read elsewhere on the forum where they kept their chickens up with a light past dark, then didn't let them out of the coop until after the time when their neighbors were at work. Kept the roo quiet. My roo crows at 6 am every day, and keeps it up until I feed them. Doesn't usually crow after that.
