empy box from Murray mcmurray

I never said the PO opened the box, but it stands to reason that someone connected with them did somewhere along the way between the hatchery and her PO. Those chicks didn't open the box on their own.

There you go again! Must be your month.

About time it's not me!

I agree that this isn't the Hatchery's fault. They have no control after the chicks leave them. They send thousands and thousands of chicks with no problems every year. There will be some issues - that's life. And, I'm sure people have called in and told a lie about their chicks just to get more chicks for free. So, the fact that the Hatcheries are so willing to ship new chicks when anyone calls is a very noble and honorable thing for them to do. They just take our word for it that chicks died or something happened during shipping.

I ordered from Ideal and my box wasn't sealed - just had a normal lid that could easily be opened at any time in transit. I haven't ordered from MM so I don't know if they actually do seal their boxes. I'm guessing someone along the postal route took them for a free chick order of their own. Hopefully that means the chicks are being well taken care of.

You do need to file a report with USPS as it's most likely one of their employees did the deed as the box wasn't likely to ever be out of their hands through the shipping process.

Sorry - what a bummer for you. I think you should let them send you some more chicks. Getting some new fuzzy butts might help you feel better?

Well, if the box is not supposed to be sealed, then I quess it is the PO,s fault, probably. I'll just march right back down there and discuss this with them. Thanks!

Yeah it sounds like someone stole them. Sorry to hear that.

I'm getting chicks for the first time myself but I'm about 60 miles from a hatchery so I'll be picking them up and able to inspect health and make sure all are there.

Best of luck.

I have never ordered from them but I have received boxes from other hatcheries with out the tops sealed in any way and remember thinking would it have killed them to zip tie the box at both ends?

If the world is coming to needing to seal them in, they might have to start doing something, even if it's tape. With the many many thousands they need to send out per hatch daily, it's probably more man power and time needed if they are to get them out in time to make it alive. One extra second on 5 thousand boxes can add up quick. It's sad when a few bad apples ruin the bunch.

I've had hundreds of chicks shipped, and my boxes always have plastic bands strapped on tight that I have to cut off to get my chicks out. BUT I fussed at my PO once last year because the worker had opened the box to "see my chicks" before I had even known my chicks were in.

Now, I have no problem opening and showing my chicks to them, but she had NO right to open MY box of chicks before me!

It is real easy to cut those plastic bands off so anyone could have cut those off, therefore creating a box that is not sealed, and taken your chicks home with them.

I am so sorry this has happened. Please file a theft report.

I've ordered two batches from McMurray (both during the water contamination before the word was out...I lost a good seventy bucks on that one. -sigh-), and both times the box wasn't sealed. The lid is just kind of pressed on. Like someone else said...it's like a puzzle piece.
