Emu Egg Rolling but turning back onto the top

PLEASE HELP!!!!! I have an emu egg and I am currently storing it until I get the incubator (tomorrow). I took the egg out of the storage box to rotate it but when I rotate the egg and its on its side, the egg rolls back to its top on its own. Is this normal? is there any way to tell if an emu egg is still alive? I have already tried candling it but the shell is too thick to see through it. It smells normal so I would assume it is still alive?

This egg hasn't been incubating already, right? If it has it needs to be in an incubator or other heat source or it is going to die/has already died depending on how long it's been away from heat. An egg can't start incubating and then be taken out.

If this is just an egg that hasn't been incubated yet, it's probably fine. How long ago was it laid? The longer you wait from the time it was laid to start incubating it, the less likely it is to be viable and develop.

Thanks for your message! The egg has not been in an incubator yet, however I've been storing it for a week. Im not sure when the exact day that it was laid but no more than 11 days. I have been storing it in 65 degree Fahrenheit.

Okay, good I was a little worried because in eggs that you can candle, you can only ever see life if they've been incubating for awhile, so I was worried that since you were trying to candle, the egg had already been incubated.

11 days is fine, they keep for quite awhile.

If you're turning it and it settles, why not prop it into the position you turned it into? Just put a wadded-up cloth or something under it.

I did not know that they had to be incubated before candling. Thanks for the good news, I was getting really worried! Should you still rotate eggs if you’re storing it in 65 degrees Fahrenheit? I don’t roll it completely. Just back and forth, no full rotations. ThankYou!

When I turn the egg, and I’m not touching it, the egg rolls back to the top on its own. Even if I do put a cloth under it, it will rotate back to its top on its own.

Then prop it up so it can't. Fold a towel into a sausage shape and use it to prop up the bottom end so the bottom end has to stay up.

Thanks for your message! Oh yeah, I already have a towel under the egg so it is not moving, but why does the egg return to its top on its own when I turn it?
