Emu egg season Fall of 2013 to 2014

Every time that the female lays a egg, the male goes and does a small hole at egg.

Does anyone knows why?

never had that happen , hope you get it figured out , it is hard enough to get good eggs without that happening .

don't have a clue? I could come up with some guesses, but they would be just that, guesses.

Egg 28 minus 1 today, saw bits of egg shells on edge of Rosie's bed,....and 2 ft away a huge dead flattened Rat.... Ouch...they must have clouted this rat and hit egg by mistake, Rosie always carefully covers the egg up... but this time they had a good brekki lol

Last year our emu's started laying the first week of November....Now this year, they were late due to the huge freeze we had and started laying the first week of December. I have 3 females and only one so far have laid an egg every 2 days....the other two, I think have stopped due to the freeze and have not stated since then. Only my one female.lays right now.

We're up to 23 eggs.. still laying 3 days apart
Dorian is still upset with me when he sees me heading for the nest... lol.. even pecked at me when I stole the latest one... poor boy is gonna have a complex!

Egg # 22 only had one freeze even with our bad weather, its been in the - double digits.

Rose stopped at 27..
right now I have over a dozen eggs in the bator and lots of wiggling going on.. also had a few hatch.. so it looks like I'll be overrun with emu this year..lol
