Emu Hatch-a-long 2012

Wow!! You guys are into The Egg Thing!!

Isn’t it fascinating/typical that wherever you have a ‘norm’ – emu eggs are green – you seem to get an un-norm like Egg Seven.

And it's great that the Net allows those interested to compare notes on the sources of the eggs, which would otherwise be all but impossible!

S.E.

Here are this weeks totals. Egg number 5 has a wiggler in it.

My California eggs are STILL MIA with the post office... grr
According to tracking:
They were supposed to be delivered on the 17th
On the 18th they left Austin (about an hour and a half drive from there to here for me)..
I think today is a holiday.. so probably no mail delivery

I know mail gets routed around.. but seriously???

Hopefully they arrive tomorrow
I'm expecting the worst.. either broken or scrambled.

OMG did you contact Carole?
My 6 eggs are sitting in the Wallingford facility which is one town over LOL

I sent her an email. I know there's nothing she can do about the postal service.. but figured she would want to know

the sad thing is I drove from Delaware to Texas by myself in three days... yet the postal service with all the people they have working in Austin and here can't move a box of eggs in that amount of time... *sighs*

Sry to jump in ...I set 4 eggs dec 2..1 has hatched, cute and healthy, egg 2 is struggling and seems dry( the white membrane is seperated from shell and dried to him, he started sometime in the middle of the night..Any suggestions/advise?

Just cleaned out that bad egg, interestingly it was full of nothing but egg white, no yolk at all, just an empty pink sack. "Well there's your problem."

Has it pipped? If so, let it be, sometimes they'll take a good long rest before going to chip away at the shell, the membranes are supposed to be dry and they become very brittle when they do dry and tear very easily so it shouldn't be a problem for the little guy. Once it hatches you can wet down any bits of membrane stuck to the feathers to clean it up so it doesn't get pecked. Whatever you do, don't help, they need to hatch on their own to absorb the yolk and cut off the blood supply to the membrane.

Thank you...I previously wet the membrane a bit with qtip but ill just leave it alone..

I posted some pics but i must have did something wrong because they didnt show up..trying again.

Well.. tracking finally updated. They are sitting at my local post office since this morning. Probably out in a cold truck (today was nice.. tonight is supposed to get down into the 30's again). So with any luck I will FINALLY have them tomorrow!
If today hadn't been a federal holiday they would be sitting next to the incubator getting ready to go in...

I hope after all they have been through that they are still good
