Emu Hatch-a-long 2012

I tried it on both of my eggs. One of them, the one which has been incubating for four days longer than the other one, is making the high pitched "tlink" sound when i tap it with the metal on the sides. The ends give a more low pitched sound. Where there is the air bubble, the sound is like a hollow tap. I let it roll to the position it wanted to stay and placed it back in the incubator. The other one hasnt sounded, so i turned it again like i always did...

Should i remain hopeful just on the fact that there are no bad smells?

Cheers

Lol.. we are always hopeful

Usually a rotten egg that sounds will lay whichever way you lay it because the membrane will have pulled away from the shell.. so it's like a water balloon full of rotten egginess inside the egg

I would be more hopeful if the eggs had been wiggling up a storm. But I won't rule out an egg as being bad unless it is beyond any doubt.

its day 57 and still no signs of life... how do you decide whether to crack it yourself or just wait?

I came home from vacation about an hour ago and went straight to her and noticed it. I think she got it from the floor. She kept slipping on the hardwood floor because she would not stay off it. I put her on the carpet and she rund out to the hallway or kitchen and slipping everywhere

I did buy vitamin b complex about 2 weeks ago cause I did read it on here that sometimes if caught early they might help. I really do not want to put another baby Emu down again

Can you put up some sort of barrier (even just a line of cardboard boxes or a board) to keep her off the slippery floor?

And have you taped her legs yet?.. If she's still splaying I would tape them.. add the vitamins and block off the floor.. if you can do that she should recover if you've caught it early enough and can keep her from splaying it over and over again..

Can you show mw how to tape the leg? She is still walking and running on the leg. I will try to take pictures. I am so excited that 3 of the 4 eggs are fertile from EmuFolks! Last year I bought $600 worth of eggs and not one of them hatched

I want to thank both Yinepu and Calla for helping me with my Splayed leg little girl. She has so far gone through so much in her 31 days of living then any other bird I own or any animal as well. I just hope I can save her from this as well. I call her my little preeme cause she was so small at birth LOL.

Opened Egg A a few minutes ago and it was scrambled, glad that's all I found in there really. It didn't stink or weep, though I suspect it would take an awful lot of salt to cover up the taste if you wanted to eat it.

Egg B is still moving and keeps getting stronger so not all is lost, 12 days left till Day 49. Gerry will be a year old on the 8th too.
