Now I will have to check to see if my scale is correct.

Hi all, here's my update as of today. This is my first year for emu eggs. I bought 3 from a guy who was advertising on Craigslist. We met up with him to pick up the eggs here in MD, but it turns out his farm was actually in Virginia. Not sure how long he had been driving around with the eggs in his car (and it had been pretty cold then).

Egg # 1 dried out way too fast.

I blew out the contents and it was all yellow (no trace of pink).

Egg # 2 was losing weight just perfectly, but yesterday morning it started to weep

I checked again in the afternoon and there was a longitudinal crack with lots of oozing. I'm glad I got to it before it exploded!
I broke it open, and again, no trace of pink.

Egg # 3 is on day 31. The weight is tracking perfectly, but is anyone home?

I'm feeling a little discouraged, but too soon to give up hope!
I e-mailed the guy I bought the eggs from. He had said that if none of the eggs hatched, he might still have some chicks at that time. I hope I hear back from him.

In the meantime (sorry for the Off Topic), I got a little bit of instant gratification this morning

These are from chocolate Society Finches. Incubation period 12 days

Avie, I love the pics you make in your post lol, pretty creative! I bet those finch eggs look tiny compared to the emu, 12 days...too bad all eggs don't hatch that quick.

This weeks weigh in - 17 within range 10 losing to fast 4 losing to slow - will use the 27 as the base and raise the humidity a few points to 35%

1st setting is 28 days old today - when to they start to wiggle?

It's so much fun...

I wanted to ask you -- how did you make your chick diaper? It was made from a sock? I couldn't see how it fastened -- were there tiny suspenders or something?

My remaining egg is a few days away from the wiggling stage. The suspense is awful !
I did see there's a few emu eggs available on ebay, sold by ratitemomma. I'm nervous about having eggs shipped all the way across the country though!

Grassman, I actually can't remember when they start to wiggle...I'll try to look back at some posts & find out

Avie, they're really easy to make & if you can get them to fit right they don't seem to faze them at all! I'll take some pics & post them so you can see, it's simple & you don't need a snap if you make them this way (=
