Emu pictures and stories.... post them here

FarmerBoy, get glasses with bling on the frames. The emu will forget all about the implants!  :lau
Hey! I have not seen you in a long time! How have you been doing? I wear glasses anyway, and yes she have pulled them off once before. But Griffin for some reason have not pecked at me at all. Thankfully! Just Little Ann.

I hang out at Stella's Social Club mostly since the Icelandic thread went sour. The link is in my signature. Come by for a visit. It is mostly the same old group just having fun! Do you like the emus? How do they do on your property? Were you able to fence an area for them or are they free ranging?

I see. I am afraid that I can't add another thread to my emails. Can barely keep up with my other threads! I love my silly Emus! They are cooped up in my coop, since we have been getting lots of snow, and very cold nights. I have a pen for them, but will have to change the pen around since the land that I have been using for their pen and the cow pasture has been sold. I have been wanting to buy that land for years, but did not have any money for it. Now I have until March 14th to move all of my fencing and coops off the land. But my main coop is in our land, so that is good. I dare not to let them free range, afraid that they will run away.

Just curious; how much space in a coop do you need for an emu?
I only coop the babies to protect them from going through the fences or from dogs, foxes, hawks and so on.. even then they wanted MORE room than my big ol hoop coops provide.. so they had to have some free time as the weather permitted (I would have to be out there supervising them). They need the exercise especially when young to help strengthen their legs. So keeping them confined long term is a bad idea.

I was wondering if you still had your Emus. Hopfully you can find something close to home.

Yup, I still have them! My mom have found a farm that is 24 acres with a house and two fair size barns at a good price, and possibly cheaper since is a Foreclosed farm, and its only 13 miles away, so not so bad. I will wait until fall, to save up for the down payment.

Guys, when people ask, ‘Will my emus be okay in a heated coop during winter?’ it helps to remember that there iis other stuff going on.

Indeed, Australian birds do inhabit snow territory – but they roam miles and miles every day, getting a broad range of foods, and in company with other emus.

Conversely, it’s not only that birds are in heated coops, they may be largely eating pellets, getting too little chance to run about – and I’m talking hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of yards just to stretch their legs before breakfast – and not be in company with other emus.

So, the question about winter-time coops involves all these things.

X2! I am deaf, but can hear with Cochlear implants, and Ann, my female 8 months old emu loves to pull the implants off and toss them over her head. Sometimes it takes me awhile to find them that she had tossed over her head.

Here, this is more what I was thinking of:

You should be able to pull them over your ears and tie it in back. You can find them on Amazon.com under the term 'skull caps'. Nothing to be said for style; but if nobody but the emus are going to see you, whatever works, right?
