END OF FEB. HATCH-ALONG, ANYONE?

I will be candling again on Sunday and doing my final toss out before lock down. As an added bonus my lovely Cochin X hen has decided to go broody. She just started laying in December and now she wants to be a MOM. They grow up too fast. I am debating if I should put some eggs under her. I saw my first robin today which is a sign that spring is coming so maybe it will be okay now to decide how many she can handle.

I candled mine last night 2 out 5 silkie eggs were good and 4 out 5 Bantam marans eggs were good and the one Bantam Marans X bantam Ameracanu

So excited. . . . Only 2 weeks left now until mine hatch, and just seeing my Valentine's batch come out which half of this batch is also, it's exciting to go through that mystery all over again of what colors will I get of Polish & EE's. Plus this time, more Araucanas. Always love the mystery of Araucanas too, especially what tufts if any I'll get.

Gonna toss my culls tomorrow.

Where do you live that you've seen you first robin already?!?! We usually don't see ours till sometime in March here in NE Iowa. Although it's been a VERY warm winter so I'm hoping that by the beginning of March I'll be able to let my two buff orp's sit!!

We live in Vermont and for some reason (not going to knock it because I'm kind of enjoying it) we are having a mild winter. Only 27" of snow so far the entire season and it's been in the 40's all week this week. Hopefully this is a sign that winter will end soon. Would be great to get an extra month or two to get my outdoor projects done.

NH has been really mild too. 40's and even 50's most days, occasionally a cold snap, but only a day or two at a time. i've been able to get a lot more done outside too.

I see that you all have a jump on me. I have just set my first clutch in my incubator that i just finished last month ( took some time to tweak it in ). Today is day zero if all goes well I'll have some update pics on the 8th of march. I am also going to participate in the EASTER HATCH-A-LONG with some of my own eggs and The March egg swap.

This incubator cost me under $35 and about 15 hours work. It's made mostly from recycled material.

Niiiiiice! Good job saving yourself a lot of money! I like the blue lights. They give it a nice "mad scientist" feel.

Candled again~
7/9 blue orpingtons (1 looks iffy)
3/7 EE from MS
9/15 EE from LA (2 look iffy)
5/11 of my backyard mutts

Their due date is Feb. 25, the day after my sister's birthday.

Yes it is an old mini fridge that I recycled, they are really insulated good and hold the temp really well. The heat source is from an old two bulb ceiling light wired through an electric thermostat. the water bottles at the bottom i use to hold heat and reduce cycling of the lights. The items I bought were from ebay and the cost is total cost including shipping.
2 blue lighted 100mm computer fans - $6
electric temp sensor - $2
electric thermostat/sensor - $21
I did buy a switch to turn off the fans before i open the door to eliminate blowing colder air suddenly across the eggs at home depot for just under $4.
